I am being put on abifiy for bipolar. I am not psychotic how come im going on a antipsychotic for bipolar. my trileptal is being reduced cause of cost. but a antipsychotic seems alot.

I am not Bipolar but my dx is depression, panic disrder and OCD. My PDoc originally thought of putting me on a low dose anti-psychotic. I was confused as to why at first. She explained to me that in small doses it helps calm, relax and sleep. I was having tremendous trouble with intrusive thoughts at that time and was unable to sleep for more then 2-3 hours at a time. I went weeks like that.

Maybe your PDoc was thinking along the same lines. Were you able to discuss it with him/her?

Hi, Kayla,

It's becoming really common these days to prescribe anti-psychotics for BP--I guess a lot of people are having good luck with them.

I did talk with her but i was not all there (ya know what i mean?) I felt like crap when i was talking to her. So i did not ask many questions. Plus im having money trouble where i could not afford my trileptal so they are taking me off that drug.
