Hi
I am new here and I am happy to have found this forum. You all are very supportive of eachother and I'd like to jump on this bandwagon.

I am a 33 y/o mother of 2. Son 16 and daughter 11. I also have a great guy. I am blessed and also depressed.

I have been battling my depression for about 7 years now. Many meds and 16 ect's that saved my life. When I first became depressed, I also suffered from chronic pain that was finally diagnosed as fibromyalgia.

I am doing very well at present time with occasional pain flare-ups and daily headaches. I would like to know if any of you know whether there is any connection between the depression and the fobromyalgia and if any of you suffer the same problems.

looking forward to meeting you all,
Kerri

Kerri - Depression is a very common symptom of fibromyalgia. Also, antidepressants, especially the older tricyclics (like Elavil™ - amitriptyline) and Effexor XR™ (venlafaxine) seem to ease some of the other symptoms (eg. pain, fatigue) as well as easing the depression. The mechanism of action for relieving depression seems to be different from that of controlling pain. I do have some sketchy details on these. I gave a presentation to a CFS/fibromyalgia/neuropathic pain about six months ago, but my notes are packed away in the garage (until I buy some filing boxes).

I did a quick search of <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.google.com/search?q=fibromyalgia+++depression&btnG=Google+Search>Google</A>, so just click the blue word and surf to your heart's content.

BTW Welcome! - Cam

Hi! You know, I'm new here as well! I'm from Norway, and my mother is suffering from fibromyalgia. I do feel sorry for you! I don't live at home with my mother anymore, but I know that she has to plan the day from the moment she wakes up. It all depends of what she feels. Good or bad. She has to take one day at a time, and she is depressed. She also has this pain! A dreadful pain, but some days are worse than others.
My english is not the best, so I think I just stop here. I'm happy to here from you again though!

Hi and Welcome! I see that Cam answered your question and want to thank him for the link, too. I wonder if I may have this malady at times. Do they take tests for it? What type of doctor diagnoses this? I cannot do a lot of anything without getting pain in many different places. Feel like I'm falling apart and just wonder how they find out a person has it.

I surely have the depression but don't know about the Fibro.

Take care!
