Ok, I think I have a few problems other than social anxiety disorder... like depression and schizophrenia... but the social anxiety is the worst of'em all.

Does anyone know what actually works and helps with Social Anxiety Disorder other than seein' a psychologist? I haven't seen one yet, but I'm tryin' to get that worked out so I can.. even though I'm kinda afraid to, I'm willing to do whatever has even a chance of helping me.

Also, I was taking 150mg Wellbutrin XL for two weeks. Then moved up to 300mg Wellbutrin XL and have been on those for about a week now. But the 150's only helped so much and the 300's make my blood pressure raise to around 146/92. - Even with takin' the antidepressants, I'm still nervous, anxious and unreasonably shy around people... even my family... that's how bad it's gotten.

So if anyone knows of any meds that will actually help me, please let me know so I can talk to my doctor about tryin'em out.

Wellbutrin isn't notoriously great for anxiety disorders, because it tends to be an activating drug, and it affects the non-serotinergic neurotransmitter systems. The better ADs for anxiety tend to be much more serotinergic -- the SSRIs, some of the more serotinergic TCAs. And there are drugs like milder antipsychotics, and Buspar, which was developed as an AP, but is marketed as an anxioltic.

Good luck

I'm on Wellbutrin too. I think it's helping my depression a little, but it doesn't do a thing for my anxiety. In fact, it might be making it worse. I'm thinking about going on a SSRI, even though they haven't been all that helpful in the past. Keep looking until you find something that works.

Thanks for the advice and info you guys. I appriciate it. What should I be taking for Social Anxiety Disorder?

I went and saw my m.d. today and asked him if he knew anything about Buspar. He said he knew about it, but it usually only increases anxiety rather than lower it. I asked about antipsychotics too... but he said I should really see a psychiatrist before I start takin' anything else.

Also, I decided to stay on wellbutrin xl just 'cause I know it's helpin' a lot with the emotional side of it... you know, actually feeling the crap. But the doc said paranoia is a huge part of this, and a psychologist would help the most there. - So! Even though I don't wanna, I want to and I gotta see a psych sometime soon.

Thanks again for the replies. What should I be taking for Social Anxiety Disorder?

I am presently taking Celexa for my anxiety and mood swings.... so maybe you can talk to your doctor about that medicine.
I am taking 20 mg per day - but it comes in 40 mg and 60 mg as well.

Good luck....
