Hey all, question my father is on Lexapro and Buspar for depression and anxiety. What I want to know is does irritability come with a side effect of Lexapro or could the irritability be caused by tremendous amounts of stress related issues in the family surroundings?

I didn't have any irritability on it at all. In fact, I was really mellowed out.

our suggestion to find out if this could be a SE of Lexapro would be to request the package insert for the medication from the pharmacist. OR to find a copy of the PDR and read the entire SE profile for Lexapro.

try to remember that asking on a forum such as this is only going to gather responses from a small sample of folks taking Lexapro. these folks might not even be taking the medication for the same reasons AND they might be on a host of other medications that affect how Lexapro works in their bodies.

there are many boards on the Internet discussing psychiatric medications........one board can sing the praises of a medication while another wails with horror stories at the mention of the same medication. ymmv.

good luck figuring this one out and hope the stress peters out soon!

I would suggest that the irritability is a symptom of the depression that the meds are trying to treat...

Lexapro was useless for me, actually made me more depressed, even at a high dosage. I don't have a memory of major events during the time that I took it. I was also irritable, but that was because the drug did nothing to control my depression. I'm bipolar, so this may be different for your dad. Maybe he should try a higher dosage if he himself has noticed other symptoms of depression still lingering.
