Not sure where to post this...so I'm thinking here is a good place.

I'm on lamictal, wellbutrin, synthroid and topomax.

I am not in a such a great state of mind at the moment. I posted somewhere else recently. I don't eat much and I'm in a depression.

I sometimes when I'm extremely anxious ...will have some wine to calm myself, but this past saturday...I went out to dinner w/friends and got very drunk I guess on wine and sangria. So bad I was vomiting etc. I had a pretty bad hangover all of sunday and I'm still feeling it today.

I guess b/c I'm feeling so badly I'm wondering now if there there is legitimate interaction with these meds and alcohol. I've heard conflicting information and I'm just now wondering.

I was pretty embarrassed as this isn't the first time this has happened, but this is probably the worst of them. The worst I've felt afterwards anyways.

I know I probably sound stupid, but I'm sorta in the " I don't care" mode.

I don't mean to offend anyone either.

Just down at the moment.

Thanks for any info input u might have.

Hello,
I've been on three out of four - I hope it helps!

My meds have made me *very* reactive to alcohol. You know how they put those labels on ALL your prescriptions filled?? Well, some of them are real. Some of them, you have a drink and the next day you think you are going to have an aneurism or something from the headache, it is sooo bad!

I don't drink any more. This is a good thing. If you can quit while you are trying to focus on your mental health, your medications will work better; you will feel better, and you can work on stuff you can control with your therapist.

I always minimized the effects drinking had on my behaviour; until I realized that my drinking was responsible for most of the effects.

Take good care!

Good for you for making such great strides in your life. I wish my brother thought like you. I have just cut off all ties to him as he is so destructive. Job well done!! Congrats! Medications & drinking?

I'm on everything you mentioned (except Topomax) and then some: Depakote & Zoloft.

I have maybe one or two drinks a year when I'm out socially. The last time I had anything to drink was at the Disney International Wine & Food Festival. I had two "tiny" glasses of wine and felt fine.

You mentioned drinking to the point you got drunk...that is most likely the difference. I agree with not mixing alcohol and meds, but my experience has been a little every once in a while doesn't seem to hurt (at least in my case). The Wine & Food Festival was last November and that's the last drink I had.

Before I started on meds, I used to go out and drink a lot. I would drink to calm my anxiety and mania. I am now on lamictal, lithium and seroquel. My meds are working so well that I do not crave a drink but rarely. When I do drink, it doesn't make me sick but I do not sleep for 24 hours if I come home late. I would suggest maybe asking yourself if your meds are working. You'de be surprised at how the craving goes away when they really work. In the meantime, make sure to eat before you drink and drink lots and lots of water afterwards. I hope you feel better soon.

partlycloudy...this is the first time i had one of those "aneurism" headaches. yah way bad.

I did find out that the medicines aren't as effective when you're drinking like you said from my new therapist, but I actually started getting very depressed, anxious and in this mixed state while I wasn't drinking.

That is why I started to have a lil wine at night because I felt like I was coming out of my skin.

This getting drunk I don't actually normally do other then the summer I should say. On occasion I may drink a bit much, but not to this point except like I am now thinking about it...was more last summer.

Still I shouldn't drink as much as I am on those few occasions.

Anyways ...I do appreciate your input and I'm glad to hear that you are doing well.

Thank you

Azalysa...yes an old doctor had told me that the way you are having a little bit of wine now and then wouldn't hurt.

A very small amount on occasions, which at the time for me wasn't too often at all.

Not the case now.

I just was wondering what the medical, biological effects were...and health risks if any.

Thanks though for your input.

crazymusiclvr...yeah I noticed I don't sleep well at all when i have a few drinks. I might fall asleep quickly, but it doesn't last.

My problem is...is that the meds weren't working on their own. All of a sudden I started having a problem. I hadn't been drinking since probably January. I recently...maybe 2 weeks ago had for a few nights had a glass or 2 of wine just to calm my nerves b/c I felt like I was coming out of my skin and I didn't want to do anything cuz I tend to si when I'm like that.

After a few days...into the next week I did resist doing this. It wasn't like I'd give into it easily.

I mentioned up earlier that I actually haven't gotten drunk that since the summer, but I do on occassion have a bit too much here and there to drink.

Not good for me I know.

I just wanted to know what health risks there might be with doing this ..if any.

thanks you though for your input...I appreciate it.

I'm glad to know that you are doing well also.
