Because...I need sleep. Regular ambien doesn't work at all. Lunesta is all night terrors and hallucinations... and she and I both forgot her samples of the newest med

Well.... unfortunately I felt I have had experiences I don't fully recall because of the Ambien. I sense that my T is willing to help me deal with them. (As one was calling him in the middle of the night.)
But the sleeping drivers...that's been a major problem since long before ambien, IMO. The biggie is, sleep deprivation makes drivers more impaired than drunks! ![]()

Hmmm seems the article also discussed sleep eating while on the drug... binge eating during the night without knowing it? So I need to lock up my keys AND my kitchen

I think the focus is that the drug makes it happen and you are amnesiac for that time period?

I don't know what's wrong with me. When I read the two definitions, I see the same information. I guess I'm just dim...
But I have to tell you all something that came up with my doctor, as she was writing a prescription for Ambien: "the first question to ask when someone complains about insomnia is, 'are you in bed?' because many times that's the big problem." My guess, based on nothing beyond my own blissful ignorance, is that the "Ambien Driving" thing is related to that. People who take Ambien without bothering about going to bed. On another bulletin board, I read a whole thread about people taking Ambien and staying up, on purpose, because they felt "trippy." Since all the people I've seen interviewed who said they had experienced it were college age, I'm wondering if the problem might be, you know, self-inflicted?

Well, while that might be true... the article funny to you, and many being self inflicted acts...
I am not in either category. But I'm taking Ambien CR... and it's really upsetting ... I'm up to 193lbs because of nighttime (while I'm asleep) eating. It doesn't matter if I don't have food in the house, because when I don't have anything around, I seem to go out driving to a fast food place. What I have are the receipts on the table or in the car, or the empty bags or cups from the places. I have even called my T in the middle of the night (no recollection) I wasn't making a lot of sense. I think I recall being in a park one night... but thought it was a dream. I've had plenty of active dreaming on this stuff.. with that said, my T agrees that whatever sleep I am getting, is restorative. I'm doing better managing my pain...even though I have to not eat prior to taking the med (several hours) and I have to allow more time in the morning as I am "out of it"... guess it's worth it? I've thought about locking my keys up, but zoned out ppl who remember how to drive would remember where the keys are! I'd have to have no food in house, and a safe on a timer imo.

Gosh Sky. That sounds so scary. I've just started taking Ambien CR since I tend to always wake up at 4ish a.m. on 10 mg Ambien and can't get back to sleep. On CR, I sleep til about 10 or 11 a.m.! There has to be a happy medium. I'm thinking of asking my doc if 6.75 mg of CR might be okay versus the 12.5 mg. Maybe that would do the trick with letting me sleep thru the night yet not sleep 10 or 11 hours.
I haven't had anything like you describe though. Ugh. Some amnesia, but no real active, out-of-bed stuff. Could yours be related to any of your other meds interacting with the Ambien to increase the blood level or effects? I wish I had solutions for you. Handcuffs? eek. A trusted neighbor who might notice you going out in the middle of the night and who might try to intervene? Take care, gg

Sky, that doesn't sound good, at all.
Rather than hiding your keys, you can get alarms that sound if your bedroom doorknob is turned.....you just hang them off the doorknob, but on the outside of the door. If you open the door in the night, the sound would wake you? Maybe? In the morning, you'd just have to put up with it, but in the night it might break the spell? I'm just trying to barnstorm with you. Lar |

When I first saw the article last week on msn.com, I only read it out of sheer curiosity, as I take Ambien for my insomnia.
Imagine my shock when I found out why there had been strawberry hulls on my nightstand on a few occasions, as well as dirty ice cream bowls. No wonder I've gained 3 lbs. in as many weeks since my dosage was increased! I've been midnight snacking and not knowing it! As far as the Ambien driver thing...I've been up and active with at least one cup of coffee for 1.5 hours before I have to leave for carpool. So, I can't say I've experienced any of those reactions (thank goodness...I don't think I could handle a 7 AM panic attack...) I called my doctor soon after reading the article, and he told me it is a rare, rare occurrence. He said if it becomes more of an issue for me (my late night sleep-walking feeding frenzies), we'll try Sonata, because I can't often dedicate the full 8 hours a night because of my hectic work schedule.
