I'm on 1250mg Lithium, 60mg Mianserin and recently upped Risperidone 2mg. I stay extremely thirsty but also have excess saliva so it feels like I'm drooling! I can't stay awake after 9h30 at night. Take all meds at 8 in the evening except 500 mg Lithium in the morning. Kinda feel like a zombie. Is it normal?

Hard to say whether it's the side effects of the mianserin or the risperdal, as both can cause sedation. Mianserin can cause dry mouth and risperidone can cause drooling.

Have you thought about taking either the mianserin or the risperidone in the morning? Or perhaps try switching from Mianserin to a less sedating antidepressant (an SSRI or SNRI for example)? Or switch from risperidone to a less sedating antipsychotic (Abilify)?

I also have Porphyria Varigata wich make meds quite tricky. The Respi is already use with extreme caution. I will try some in the morning and see if I function better. Maybe to much sedation at once.

I'm on risperidone, and find it extremely sedating, but I'm on 4 mg. I also notice a bit of a problem with excess saliva, but not enough to make me want to switch drugs.

I think all the A-typical antipsychotics have some weird side effects depending on the individual, so it really is a case of finding the most tolerable.

When I first started risperidone, it would knock me out within an hour of taking it (even at my starting dose of 1/2 mg). After about a month though, it no longer made me tired, even when it was increased several times. I take it in both the morning (1 mg) and evening (2mg) now and sleep as a "normal" person would sleep (don't fall asleep too early, wake up at a normal time, etc.).

For me it became less sedating as time passed.

Risperdal caused me to have high prolactin levels, which means my body basically thought it was pregnant. It also caused me to gain a ton of weight. I am so glad I am off of it. VERY glad.
