I'm on 20 mg of Lexapro along with Wellbutrin and Abilify. I mentioned at my last visit that the Lexapro has taken away all sexual feelings and my P doc said to decrease it to 10 mg. I tried that and on day 8 I started feeling anxious, sad and restless so I upped again.

My next appointment isn't for 3 months.

He played it off like sex wasn't a big deal as long as I'm happy but it is a big deal.

Should I call back and demand to be seen before then?

What alternatives are there that work for both anxiety and depression? I've tried these and they didn't work for one reason or another: Zoloft, Prozac, Cymbalta, Effexor XR.

I actually LOVED the Effexor for my depression and energy levels but it actuall increased my anxiety

ETA: I was on Prozac 40 mg with Wellbutrin and it seemed like the Prozac had stopped working so P doc changed it to Lexapro and then added the Abilify. Is it possible the Prozac would work better now that I'm taking abilify? Is it possible he could have increased the dose of the Prozac?

I can tell this is a big concern for you. I would call your doctor's office and demand to be seen earlier.

Prozac and Wellbutrin both interact with Abilify in some way. Abilify, an antipsychotic, is only added to certain antidepressants, one of them being Lexapro.

Honestly, I have been on Abilify and Lexapro together- it was hell. I did experience sexual side effects (lack of sex drive) and I was told it was the Abilify.

I went from Lexapro and Abilify to Viibryd, and it was just like Lexapro for me, but without the sexual side-effects. I personally don't think the side-effects in my case came from the Abilify though, but everyone is different. It is a really new drug though (the Viibryd), so your doctor might not be comfy with it. I wasn't ready to go back to the Effexor family, but I didn't want the older SSRIs, so...I was a bit desperate. Working good for me so far though.

I have been on many things; Abilify does reduce but does not ruin and kill my sexuality. It was always the anti-depressants.

I have no sexual desire whatsoever and it's been this way for years. I take Prozac, Abilify, Depakote(just started), Ritalin and Lamictal. It sucks! I wish there was simething I could do about it, but I beleive all these meds cause lessen sex drive, as far as I know, at least for me.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

How long we're you on the Lexapro. Once I leveled out...then it took about 4-5 and the sexual desire came back.

Welcome to the world of antidepressants! I've been on almost every kind of antidepressant and the all made my sex life a big 0. I'm sure there is some med or combo of meds that can help but I have never found one.
I would call your doctor and demand to be seen sooner. Unfortunately, the docs have to be pushed and bugged in order to do something. Sex is a big part of life and if it's important to you I wouldnt take no for an answer. I'm old so I finally gave up!! (44) Good luck.

Ahh, yes, the dreaded libido/sexual side effects of AD's - I know it well. There are some add on meds that people report can counteract some of these side effects, but they have not worked for me. However, you may have better luck. Buspar (mild anti-anxiety med) can help, as can Amantadine and Mirapex, both are fairly benign meds that are used off-label for sexual issues caused by AD's. Good luck!

I'm on 15mg of Abilify (for psychosis) with my Viibryd at the moment, so I'm now pretty certain that the problem was the Lexapro, since I'm having minimal side-effects and it's been a good while. Hope you find something that works for you!

i've had luck with lexapro, and cymbalta. im now on viibryd (i cant tell if its helping my depression or not yet(but its not made it worse)). if lexapro and effexor were helpful for you i would ask about other treatment options. viibryd is ssri (i THINK effexor and lexapro are ssri's too.) plus there are many other ssri's out there.

^^^^Lexapro is SSRI and Effexor is SNRI^^^^

There are a a handfull of meds that don't kill your sex drive; the two that I've tried are Wellbutrin and mirtazapine. In my case mirtazapine has actually elevated it some.
