I was on an antidepressant in 1995 that actually worked, but I can't remember what it was. I'd really like to suggest it to my shrink as the celexa isn't cutting it. I keep thinking it was either Luvox, Effexor, or Zoloft. I remember it being a large pill, and if I'm not confusing memories, I think I took it twice a day.
I asked once about a drug that may have brought on a manic episode, but the more I think about it, the more I don't think I was manic. I woke up awake, had energy all day and went to bed tired. I was motivated, unafraid of things and life was great. Although I made bad decisions at the time, I think that if I were still in the situation that I was in then, I'd make the same choices. (I broke out of an abusive situation-not the wisest way, but they were desperate times). I believe I took half a dose in the morning and then again late afternoon. I recal trying to drink a beer one night and passing out after just a couple swallows. I tried calling Walgreens, but they don't keep records back that far. And I can't remember who my doctor was (he was just an internist, not a shrink). Anyway, I have an appt with the shrink on Monday morning and I don't want to just tell her 3 possible drugs and waste months of time trying them all out. Any ideas? Big pill-white I believe, taken twice a day. |

Tracy - The pill that you were taking was probably Luvox™ (fluvoxamine). They are white and were around in 1995; at least in Canada. Also, Luvox can cause manic episodes, in rare cases. More likely, what you experienced was an increase in anxiety that is a common start-up side effect of most SSRIs. This usually does disappear within the first month of taking the drug, though (as your body adjusts to the drug). Luvox is the only SSRI that is a white tablet. the 50mg tablet is round and the 100mg tablet is oval in shape. Manerix™ (moclobemide) is a dull yellow to ecru coloured oval tablet, though. both Luvox and Manerix are taken twice daily.
I do not think that Effexor™ (venlafaxine) was around in 1995 (maybe it was); and besides regular Effexor is a salmon-colored pentagonally shaped tablet, while the XR version (released in 1997 or 1998) is a capsule. The regular tablet is taken three times daily, while the XR capsule is taken once daily. Zoloft™ (setraline) is only available in capsule form in Canada, but I do believe that there is a tablet form in Europe. All Zoloft is taken only once daily. I hope that this is of some help. - Cam <font color=orange>"Sometimes you may be shown the light in the strangest of places, if you look at it right" - Robert Hunter</font color=orange> ![]() |

I began with your best guess. Then I hit the internet to research some more.
And today I suggested luvox to my shrink and she obliged. Fingers are crossed, hopes are high. Thanks for the help. |

Hi. I thought I'd just mention that here in the US, Zoloft comes in a tablet form. It is a long, thinnish oval and is sort of a yellowish-tannish color. I didn't even know that it came in capsule form.

3Boyz - The capsule form of Zoloft may not be available in the U.S., just as the tablets are not available here, in Canada. - Cam
