Has anyone ever been on or heard of Elavil for depression?

I'm currently on zoloft and its not working. And Wellbutrin makes me Suicidal,. And I'm allergic to cymbalta...

That's a tricyclic antidepressant that doesn't get used too often anymore. My husband used to take it, but it made him really sedated. Didn't do much for the depression either. Don't know much else about it.

Elavil was my first antidepressant way back when. Highly sedating. It didn't do anything for my depression but made me gain a lot of weight.

Have you tried Lexapro?

Elavil made me sleep A LOT when I was on it - which was fine for the time, I guess. I don't think it made me less depressed, I think I was just too sedated to really care very much.

It doesn't get prescribed very much anymore. It has more side effects that newer medications, and is extremely lethal in overdose.
