I have been on risperidal or 5 months and effexor for 2 months or so, and have noticed that my monthly friend has not happened at all. Has anyone else had the same? Not that I am complaining lol. Its great not having it... I just find it a bit strange...lol

That's interesting...my periods have been coming further apart since being on risperdal so perhaps it is a side effect.

On a side note-how are your diet, excercise, and sleep habits? Are you under a great deal of stress? Have you lost or gained a lot of weight recently? Do you sleep too little or too much? Do you not excerise enough, or do you excercise too much? All could be factors...I'd just suggest going and seeing either your family doctor or a gynocologist. And when you see whoever is prescribing your psych meds, ask if it is a side effect.

Lack of periods is a side effect of Risperdal, according to my pdoc (and one which I happen to love! Ladies look here! Risperidal, Effexor and menstruation). I'm on Effexor with it as well -- not sure if that helps or hurts matters.

Make sure you mention it to your doctor right away. Risperidone increases prolactin levels, sometimes to extraordinary levels.

The patient hand-out says: "This medication may in rare instances increase your blood level of a certain hormone (prolactin). In females, an increase in prolactin levels may result in unwanted breast milk, the end of menstruation or difficulty becoming pregnant. In males, it may result in decreased sexual ability, inability to produce sperm, or enlarged breasts. If you develop any of these symptoms, tell your doctor immediately."

Tell your doctor immediately is just what I would do.

I have read some stuff around SSRIs causing infertility in some women.

I'm not too sure on the facts of this (don't believe everything you read, right?)

So if anyone has any solid info, I would appreciate it.
