Does anyone get a funny feeling inside your mouth while on zoloft? I don't know if it's my imagination or not. Like swelling. I asked the pharmacist yesterday and he said I'd get hives if I were allergic, or I wouldn't be able to breathe. My whole face would swell up. That's not happening, but something is. Or it's my allergies. I hope I'm going to survive trying meds. I'm a hypochondriac!

I think you may be talking yourself into anxiety about your meds. Actual allergic reactions, like your pharmacist said, are generally very severe and pretty rare. Even if it is a side effect, it will probably get better as you take it for a few weeks. The person to really ask about this is your pdoc if you are truly thinking something is awry. Only your pdoc can tell you what he wants you to do about it.
Thanks for this!

Thanks, Chris. The pharmacist is more accessible. The pdoc is hard to reach and it's not an emergency. I'll hold out until Thursday when I see him unless it gets worse. Taking the zoloft in the a.m. makes me drowsy but I'll see what happens with that too.

It can take a week or so for the initial side effects to go away/get more tolerable. Have some patience with it and just communicate with your pdoc. You are right in that this doesn't sound like something you need to contact your pdoc about right away; it can hold until you see him unless the issue becomes more pronounced. Your pdoc may have wanted you to take it in the evening because drowsiness could be a side effect, so if that is a switch that you made at the pharmacist's suggestion, you might reconsider it as an evening med if the drowsiness is bothersome. I took zoloft at one point, but it was so long ago I can't remember how it went for me.
Thanks for this!

Thanks again, Chris. My instructions just say "once daily", doesn't say morning or night. I just read a lot of negative things about zoloft online from people. I shouldn't have. I'm getting off the computer since it's making me more depressed.

I've been getting a little dry mouth. I kept feeling like I'd eaten something really salty. I've been trying to drink more water to see if that helps.
Thanks for this!

My pdoc and I have a pact that I will not read about Zoloft online. It is not helpful in any way. It just triggers my anxiety.
Thanks for this!

Thanks, Chris and pbutton. Each day after an hour of taking the zoloft, like right now, my face feels funny, just on one side. I know I'm not making it up because it's happened every day! It seems to go away after several hours, though. I see 3 doctors next week: pdoc, internist, and allergist so I will ask them all what they think.

Probably a good idea because I am now anxious about nausea and upset stomach, which I haven't experienced so far! I'm going to try not to read any more.

My first thought was perhaps the 'swollen tongue' could be related to the side effect of dry mouth. Anxiety can definitely make your face grow numb as well.. This doesn't automatically mean that it's 'all in your head', but hopefully that thought might help you keep from tormenting yourself with the fear of an allergic reaction.

I generally associate allergic reactions with hives and the like. I know with the lamictal I'm taking the troubling signs are swelling, sores, and hives around the mouth.
Thanks for this!
