I've been put on Haldol. I've read all about it one the internet, and I've asked my doctor about it. I just wanted to know of personal experiences. Thanks.

Well, I was on Haldol for a few months once. I can say that it definitely did what it was supposed to do which was good for me at the time, but once I stabilized I opted for something with more manageable side effects.

It helped me sleep, which practically no pill can do for me so that was good - but it made me very, very, very sleepy. I was a zombie during the day. I can't believe I drove around on that - twice I ran off the road. It messed with my memory and I have very foggy recall of specific events of that time. When I look at pictures from then, I have no recall of those events. I do remember friends, who didn't know I was on any medication, often commented that I was really spaced out - and one asked me flat out once if I was on drugs (recreational) or something (I wasn't).

So, if you need to be knocked on your rear (or in this case, the head) it will surely do that. I'm sure the dose makes a difference in the severity of the side effects. At the very least, it will really, really mellow you out. Put on some groovy music and don't try to operate any heavy machinery Haldol ?

I was put on Haldol when I was hospitalized about 2 years ago . I dont remeber a thing during the whole week I was on it . People came to see me and I have no recolection of the visits what so ever . I felt as if a week of my life was taken from me . I was however a very disturbed person at that time soo maybe I didnt need to remember what was going on . Anyway I would use caution with this drug. Take care and best wishes to you .

I'm sorry it's been so long since I've responded but I took Haldol for almost 10 yrs and loved it,; however I did fall asleep behind the wheel and get my license revoked thanks to my pdoc who would ignore me when I'd complain of sleepiness. Finally, I was taken off becuz I was getting tardive dysknesia( also, in point I can not take Geoden as it is related to Haldol and brings out those bad side affects). My doctors made me sign a waiver of release so I couldn't sue them over the years of meds they've been prescribing for me.

Guess you can say I love to sleep.
