I sometimes get "lucky" and have a short period of positiveness.

I know it's a connection with another living being whether the internet or in being(I can read my cockatiel's body language, she/he is happy being with me without ever of us trying too hard to be so.)

For me, medications are only part of the answer-a piece of a puzzle.

I need to have a daily routine if I don't have a weekly routine. So, I reach some goals and look to those positives.

Exercise is an example. Just walking up and down stairs will help if done 600-1000 times or 20-30 minutes and if that is too easy, put a pack on your back and try that without stopping. If you do this every day, you really accomplished something!

Somehow, see comedy from shows/movies/other media and also try to develop your sense of humour. Myself, my creativity is humour related because when I see the humor in life or talk about things in life that make people laugh(it's the way one tells it that helps alot.) And when I make people laugh, then it's magic to me because it was not forced, it was like a higher power allowed me a moment to be funny-so it feels positive and special. Especially when I could make a person laugh without truly knowing them in full depth, but still having that connection to a person's spirit with humour, a simple smile or laugh.

So, I do not say humour is that end all, for all, but just an aspect of life that I finds helps me.

Gee, sorry, ran out of ideas......take care!

Abilify was my magic bullet. I tried a dozen meds before I found it. It saved my life.

For me, just taking a shower and refreshing myself helps with a low mood. Burning a candle or cleaning my room also helps. I guess for me its just surrounding myself with clean things and being clean raises my mood.

Also talking to someone online and having some banter can also help my mood.

Watching a funny tv show or just listening to the tv in the background while I veg out helps too.

Just a few suggestions, I hope it helped!

I've only had very brief periods of relief over last 25 yrs and I've been over 45 meds easily plus shock treatment. My present PDOC told me (about his experience as a PDOC), "Every med has worked for me and every med hasn't worked for me". Everybody is different. I definitely responded to some SSRIs though with side effects sometimes. It's really trial and error.

I feel so fortunate that altho it took a couple of years to get my meds right, I feel like I'm now on the right meds for me. Lexapro20, abilify2.5, vyvanse40, wellbutrinXR40 and some sleep aids. It definitely took trial and error and a couple of years of feeling passively/actively suicidal to get it right tho

For me, abilify was horrible. I can't stand antideppresants either. I take mood stabilizers to keep me from going too low--lamictal and depakote.

Wellbutrin helped a few years ago, but now I'm hitting another funk.

The 3 medications I've been on for depression haven't helped. I'm scared that nothing will work. I no longer have help from the crisis center that helped me the past 6 mos. So my only option is to visit a primary care doctor to continue the Prozac for me.

That's just background - my main question is about Abilify - I keep seeing it posted here. Could it help me, do you think? If the SSRIs haven't made me feel any better in 6 - 8 weeks?

I don't have insurance or regular income. Is it really expensive? I can get generic Prozac at Walmart for $4 and generic Atavan for $11.

When I had major depression, the two things that really helped me were:
Getting sufficient sleep. My 1st therapist helped me make this a priority. I was only sleeping 2-3 hours a night. For me, depression and sleep are closely intertwined.
Having hope. My 2nd therapist gave me hope that I could solve my problems and get through this period. This helped tremendously and quickly. Then I stuck with him for weekly therapy for help with my problems. It helped so much to have someone "along for the journey."

My pdoc prescribed Abilify for me and i couldnt afford it even with my insurance. They tried to charge me like $200. Thats just not rite. Why or how would anyone pay that?? I have heard good things about it though. Very frustrated i cant afford it.
