I've been on citralopram for several years, maybe as much as 10 years. I only take 20mg daily, but that is because I am very small. Several times the Docs tried increasing the dose, but I just got massive sweating and palpitations, so we reduced it again. They say approximately 20mg per 50kg body weight is right. An increased dose does not necessarily help your depression more, unfortunately, however it is one of the most effective anti-depressants for me.
Different anti-depressants suit different people, it can take a while to find the right one, but you need to wait at least 6 weeks to judge the effects, maybe even 12 weeks.
Good luck !!!!

ok, i know that 20mg i a pretty usual dose for depression, but ocd witch i suffer from demands a lot more than that. some take as much as 100mg, iīm hoping i donīt have to take more than this, but it waitīs too see.
Is it depression youīre suffering from?

I started at 40mg at first with no side effects (except finally feeling alive) and now I'm at 20mg and any less brings the dark clouds back. It is also called Celexa and there are a few posts on this forum that might answer your questions. Do you think you need more? I was able to drop dosage after some of my personal turmoil (which was likely caused by the depression) started to settle down.

Hi, I'm new here. Yes, I take Citalopram. I have been on 20mg a day since late June of this year. I take it almost the same time everyday which is right after I get up. Otherwise I would forget. I am taking it for PTSD. I have had PTSD since 1997. I have been on many anti-depressants and so far this one has been working for me. On occasion if I am really having some tough issues I take Xanax and I have been on the Xanax for about 5 years.

ok, happy to hear itīs working good for you.
It,s not really working so good for me i think, it haveīs a lot to do with my bad sleep, and dunno if that depends on citalopram. At least in the beginning i waked up with anxiety, somethimes really strong. Now i just wake up too early and canīt sleep after that because of my ocd. Im beginning to think i should have more effect from it. If i manage to sleep better i feel that the med works a lot, but shouldīt it work all the time?
and after 4 weeks on 40mg i should have gotten a bit better than this i think, i know itīs too early to say, but im gonna call my doc tomorrow about the sleep.
Anybody else that had bad sleep on this med?

I'm really small too and I take 50 mg. Once I took 60 mg. It all depends on the person.

Taking just citalopram wasn't enough for me. I have to take Risperdal and Wellbutrin too.

Hi, Mikey. Citalopram I have been on citalopram before and I really like it. The dosage for me was 40 mg for anxiety and depression. It usually takes 6 weeks or more to get the full effect. Hang with it. I'm sure it will prove effective.

I'm on Lexapro now, which is a very close cousing to what you're taking. I'd rather be on what you are on! Citalopram

Ok, good that it worked for you. But iīve changed it to sertralin witch Iīve taken before, and it worked for me. Taking 100mg first week, and tomorrow begin with 150mg, same dose I was on before.
Itīs good that I can change it that quickly and not have to do the taper and increase process that takes so long.
I only took it for 5weeks 40mg, but had been slowly increasing it the whole summer, and not really getting better, so it was a kind of emergency for me. I had to choose between increasing it to 60mg, or take sertralin again. The doc says itīs between 4-8weeks when you see if it works, she says that after 4 weeks on the same dose, you can see if the dose have to be increased, at the earliest of course, but im in a hurry so to say.
Itīs just so individual how they work for us.
take care, mikey
