Hi everyone!

I am new here and I am looking for some advice/ share experiences.

Today is my second day of Citalopram and things are not looking good. 4 hours after I took the first tablet I was very sick and have been feeling like this until now.

I was prescribed it because of anxiety. Last year I was diagnosed with depression and I was given fluoxetine. However I told my doctor that I didnt feel that the fluoxetine worked for me. (I didnt have any side effects)

Now I wonder if I should continue with Citalopram. The side effects are horrendous.

Also I am bit worried that it will ruin my sex life as it is the only good thing in my life at the mo.(That is when I dont have a HUGE argument with my partner because of my silly anxiety)

comments and suggestions please!

I was on citalopram for a few years, including during my last pregnancy. Even on the highest dose I never had any problems. I know that with a couple of other drugs tho I had problems e.g. Prozac. I tried it for 10 days then had to change. Is there any way you could keep trying with the citalopram for a week, so that your body can adjust to it or are the side effects too much. It often takes a while before these drugs begin to take effect in our system...GL

When I first started citalopram, it made me nauseated, but it only lasted about three days. I didn't have any sexual side effects on it at all. It worked really well for me for several years, but then the effects wore off. You could always switch to Lexapro. It's the younger sibling of citalopram (Celexa)and has a lower side effect profile, plus it works even better on anxiety.

Hello.... I am on Celexa (yours is the generic brand for that) and I have been on it for 6 months now and it has been a life saver to me, my mind and my life.
I would suggest that you hang in there and give it another months before you decide to change it.... for I too was sick a lot in the beginning (like with many other meds) and then the side effect when away, plus I have found that it is best not to take this particular medicine with any of Rx meds.... for it will only make the sick feeling worse.

Good Luck....

Celexa made me sick when I first started taking it. It helped to take it with food and no other meds at the time. If you've got other meds to take, take them a couple hours later than the Celexa.

I would still be on it if my insurance would pay for it! Citalopram I'm on Lexapro, now.

If you don't get a satisfying answer here, you can look your med up on DrugDigest.com or WebMD.com. Citalopram

I also felt sick at first, but it went away after a week or so. The only side effect I had that didn't go away was hair loss. Give it a few more days and see if it improves. Good luck.
