I have been on Hydroxyzine (which apparently very few have taken) for about a month and a half and I've been noticing how greatly it has taken away a lot of my anxiety, but at the same time I don't like how "coated" I feel. I don't have many emotions/feelings and I feel distant and out of my body all the time now. I assume it is just from the meds, and I assume more than this medicine has that same "coated" feeling?

The antidepressants I have taken have greatly blunted my ability to feel and be motivated. Medications lessen our reaction to internal and external stimuli. In my experience, it did also lessen my anxiety, though.

i've took antidepressants but i've never felt like out of the body...

hydroxyzine works for me too in terms of anxiety. but mine is anxiety caused by my antidepressant so it takes the annoying feeling out... i guess in a sense i'm not more annoyed by the incessant anxiety and is able to think more?

but other than that i've never felt blunted.

hope you feel better soon

What ad gives you anxiety , do you have BP . Lexapro and a couple more ssri,s have anti anxiety agents in them that work well after a few months on them.

Not saying I enjoy the bunting but I like it better than anxiety that's for sure, cut down the dose if to strong . At the moment I don't think I need my 4mg of Ativan but my body does, and if I stop?? I don't want to think about it.

I don't know about what doses are too much, but my doc prescribed me to take 10mg, 4 times a day. So I don't just take them when needed, they continue to stay in my body throughout the day, which is what my doc wants. Both my doc and T know about my dosage and know about my out of body feelings.

Hydroxyzine (/haɪˈdrɒksɨziːn/; sold as Vistaril, Atarax) is a first-generation antihistamine

It's basically used as benedryl ... If you are using just for treating your anxiety it will maybe help some , but you have to find the reason your having anxiety and work on those issues which will lead to you not needing medication for it.

And yes you will feel a bit dopey on it, same reason people take benedryl often to help them sleep .

Video: Treatment for Depression
Do Meds Coat Emotions/Feelings?
Treatments for depression are getting better everyday and there are things you can start doing right away.
Hydroxyzine can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Stop using hydroxyzine and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as tremors, confusion, seizures, or restless muscle movements in your eyesDo Meds Coat Emotions/Feelings?, tongue, jaw, or neck. Avoid drinking alcohol. It can increase some of the side effects of hydroxyzine.

Probably, but that is one of the reason I am taking them, I hate feeling like crap...though the drowsiness of numbing drugs is annoying so I am trying to find out whether caffine, ginsing or both are good things to keep my energy levels up without counteracting the numbing effects.

For now its better not to feel much of anything than feel horrible, but I am still depressed when I do feel something or anxious meds can't totally get rid of how you feel or fix it...they can only provide temporary or maybe more long term relief depending on what you're taking and how long.
Thanks for this!

My emotions were coated before taking the AD so it's not really an issue for me.

sew, I'm on Lexapro.

Gencat, woah 4 times a day! I'm on 10mg 3 times a day as per needed. I don't really take them alot anymore, but there are some periods where the anxiety caused by my AD is super crazy so I take them for a little relief.

But best thing about hydroxyzine being an antihistamine: it does not have "addictive" effects like benzos! You have to slowly wean off benzos.. while you can stop hydroxyzine anytime.
