after 35 years on lithium for my bp2 (hypomania, no depression), it has taken its toll on my thyroid, parathyroids and now possibly kidneys. i take 1/2 klonopin daily for anxiety and .12 mg. seroquel for sleep. saw a new p/doc who wants me to try ability as my mood stabilizer but says i would have to use klonopin rather than seroquel for sleep. am documenting daily how i feel off lithium and this is day 5.
want to know if anyone uses seroquel or klonopin or anything else as a mood stabilizer rather than say, lamactil,
geoden or abilify as all my research indicates bad side effects which i know comes with taking any of these meds.

I take Topamax for my mood stabilizer. It has worked wonders for me. I personally won't touch abilify. Do some research on it see what you think. I'm actually going to ask my doctor for an increase in dosage at my med check on Tuesday.

Seroquel and Abilify are both atypical antipsychotics. Couldn't seroquel "count" as your mood stabilizing agent?

But FWIW, I love love love Abilify. It has been awesome for my BP II.

Good luck,
EJ
Thanks for this!

I refuse mood stabilizers , and use 4mg Ativan a day has a stabilizer but after 30 years I will never be able to withdraw, but that was what I picked.

You love Abilify and I am about to begin it as an augmentation to Lexapro. May I bother you and ask abt our positive experience(s) on Abilify?
