Hi, I'm new here. I'm currently bottoming out into depression and feel the need to get back on meds. It's been a year or so... I have responded to Wellbutrin in the past but the last generic form I had was horrible, it confused me so badly that after two weeks, my wife told me to stop taking it, and she's usually the one who suggests to me that maybe I'm depressed enough to take meds.
Has anyone had good or bad results with various generics?

Bupropion is the common generic for Wellbutrin XL (I think) It was pulled from distribution as it was not the same class of drug. And it didn't work at all for me. I have great luck with Wellbutrin & have to ask to have the Rx written that way, so my Ins. will cover it.
So, no, I haven't done as well with generics in this particular instance.

Good Luck with this!

Generic wellbutrin has several manufacturers, and some people have real problems if the pharmacy switches suppliers. I had this problem a couple of years ago. My pdoc made note with my pharmacy for future reference not to use the manufacturer to fill my prescription. I have no problem with the one the use now, but that one switch messed me up literally for several months, even though I only took the one that caused the problem for about a week. The other thing your pdoc can do is note brand name necessary on your prescription. It will cost more, but you don't have to worry about manufacturer switches. I prefer the lower cost, so I've just learned to check the manufacturer name when I get a refill.

There is a generic version called budeprion that was pulled for efficacy issues. I believe it was a "branded" generic. Bupropion, however, is still available.mwhich were you taking?

I take Bupropion 150mg. I take 2 per day for a total of 300 mg per day. The manufacturer of mine is Sandoz. I think it is helping me. I've been on it 5 months now.

I have just started Wellbutrin at 150mg extended release... how long before I should feel it? Still down in the dumps and anxious. Another note, my brother who is diagnosed same as me was on 450mg before it did anything for him. Should I ask my pdoc to up the dose? If so, how many days after starting?

From the NAMI site, it appears that it can take up to 6-8 weeks for depression....ouch!

It will take a few weeks to start noticing any difference, and a few weeks more before it is really completely working.

You can always try a different pharmacy for a different generic or ask your pharmacy if they can order a different generic. I know I can personally tell the difference in different generics.

I have been on the generic for several months. 75mg, twice per day.originally prescribed to help cessation of smoking along with the patch and it really helped me. I am still on it and it helps my mood swings.

I have taken Buproprion for a long time, and as far as I know, it's working well.
