Before I ask my Rheumy Doc for some
thing else to take for PAIN...

I was just wondering what every one thought was the best Rx DRUG to take for PAIN?
- (1) without sleepiness & (2) with sleep induced as a side effect.

Thanks....

I'd give you advice if I could, but I can't think of any pain meds that fit your criteria listed

I'm kinda confused - you want a pain med that doesn't cause sleepiness but does induce sleep as as side effect?

A reltively safe pain med that you could try is called ULTRAM. It works by acting on specific opiate receptors ( although it is not an opioid) and by blocking reuptake of SE & NE. It has relatively low side effects.

Hello Rhapsody!
Docs seem to use tricyclic antidepressants in low doses to treat pain and help with sleep. I've heard many using amitriptyline etc for chronic pain. It lifts the pain threshold. But I'm not sure if it's the thing ur after. Anyway, hope u find a good working one!

Hey Rhap,

I live in a different country... I don't think we have the same medicine. But I'll give it a go.... although I only know sleepy once.

Empacod, it has paracitamol and codieine, for me that is the best mixture, but it is addictive so if you have problems with that then don't use it... Ibumax is a cheap generic brufin we have, I think you will find somthing there that starts with "ibu" it will be the same. Robaxin helps for muscular pain but is expensive. I don't know if you have these there.... If you are desperate and still looking try searching mims on the net, it's a dictionary of medication that our doctors use, but once again, I don't know if it's the same there.
