I was on Effexor XR for six weeks with no results. The dr took me off with no tapering and three days later I was in the hospital because the physical and mental withdrawal was so bad. That was my first hospitalization.

By itself is very effective for treating depression. But does nothing for anxiety and arguably some claim it adds anxiety. For me if I just take Wellbutrin and nothing else, I do get anxiety attacks and more rage. Accompanied with xanax low does, it significantly reduces my anxiety and rage.

The only side effect that is a common complaint is it's hard to fall asleep for the first week because it is a stimulant. Not a powerful one, more on the line of a Monster Energy Drink all day. Activating more dopamine really cuts back my depression but my theory is because it is a stimulant may agitate anxiety and mood swings for some people, but the xanax counters that beautifully and the two compliment each other like no other combo I ever had.

I have to be highly functional and alert all day, I work full time in a high tech field. I can't be slowed down by the majority of those crappy antidepressants out there. And the bonus is wellbutrin is the only antidepressant I ever had that did NOT make me sexually dysfunctional or feel dopey and tired.

Why do doctors ignore this and continue with the zombie pills?
Because WELLBUTRIN is a pep pill , not good for people with anxiety it make you more wound up on its own. its given to patients who are felling slugish on ssri,s and wellbutrin is NOT an ssri by the way) has a pick me up to help with mood ps ZOLOFT IS A GREAT a -d to most has been for years ,till Lexapro knocked it off the top spot

I'm on day 3 now, I feel like I want to be sick and I can't stop yawning.
I see my CPN this week so will see what she says.
Thanks for this!

I rather question the use of Effexor as first line treatment, it seems to be very strong on the side effects end and that would easily scare away patients being treated for the first time.

Zoloft is BY FAR the best antidepressant I've been on when it comes to dealing with anxiety and OCD, and second best when it comes to side effects (the first time I took it I had GI upset for maybe a week and became manic, but wasn't on a mood stabilizer since I didn't yet have the BP dx, and this time around I've had none). Lexapro is the only AD that gave me no side effects, but Zoloft has had very few, and is much more effective for me anyway. With Zoloft, my OCD is cut by at least 75%, and that's without doing any CBT or any sort of therapy to be dealing with it, and also at a low dose (50mg).
