Doc wants me to try Ativan. Thinks my lack of sleep is that I can't chill out and this is supposed to help. I took Ativan a few years ago but don't remember how it affected me in particular because of all the other crap I was on. I remember being kind of goofy and my memory was awful. Could that have been the Ativan? I would be taking this with Lamictal and no other meds.
Opinions anyone?

I used Ativan for about 2 years some years back and I think it greatly helped me to calm down and to get some sleep with my over active mind as I slept.
IMO - I think some of the past problems you had was probably due more to your EMOTIONAL UPSET and with everything coming out all at once than it was with the medicine Ativan, but then that my opinion and not exactly fact. LoVe, Rhapsody - ![]() |

I dunno..I'd take goofy sleeping any old night.
Seriously tho...Ativan is tops for anxiety. I think it is way better than ..say..Xanax. Or Klonopin. Errr who is yer Doctor..? I'd like to switch back to Ativan as this Klonopin ain't makin' me sleep for nuttin!! ![]()

Ativan is good for "pre-sleep" and anxiety.
Klonopin is not a "pre-sleep" type, and that is why docs will have people with anxiety and those who often suffer with anxiety attacks. My pdoc gives me scripts for both to use only if needed. Klonopin does not make me sleepy if and when I need to use it, I could drive and not be drowsy. Ativan, I personally wouldn't want to take it if I needed to drive or be alert for something else. After knowing how they make me feel, I wouldn't shy away fromusing them, but I try to only stick to the directions, "use only when needed." I've been findinf Ativan seems to help me sleep better than Ambien, and now Sonata, I will use the Ativan up faster than the Sonata, doc only writes qty of 15 only, never a full 30 days. Helps reduce the chance of addiction. I only see him once every 2 months, so they need to last that long, he is happy to see I so often do not need refills every visit . . . I am too. Yeah, I like Ativan.

I remember taking ativan about ten years ago when I had a most desperate bout of severe depression. I had tossed and turned for weeks with a frog sweat ..then would get up and somehow trudge through the long construction worker day. Don't know how I survived. Don't remember much.
Ativan definately helped me get at least 2 hours of sleep...however...I was extremely groggy during the day. it did take the "edge" off of my deep depression a bit though... I won't knock anything when you're desperate. m.b.

Thanks everyone. I think I may give it a try again since it's pretty easy to stop and start this one. The nice thing about getting everyone's two cents is that it all adds up!
