Uh oh I've been drinking lately.. A considerable amount. Sometimes no drinks but up to 4 drinks on occasion.

And I take an SSRI. Will this be really bad for my liver?

No I live in England , you collapse in pain then they blue light you to hospital hook you up to flush drips 20 litre a day go in your body and out your penis via a tube , then they operate , take your gall bladder out just for good measure . antibiotics pumped in and hope for best 50-50 is your chance of walking out the hospital .

Not to mention that alcohol is a depressant which works against your SSRI for your depression. Plus it's bad for your liver.

I am not finding a direct link to liver damage, with SSRI's and alcohol, at the same time, it's nearly implied that if you have had liver problems or take something like Motrin, use SSRI's with caution.

It's known, that alcohol misuse/abuse, over time, can lead to liver damage, so can see why you'd be concerned about drinking and liver damage with SSRI's.

From all I've read, drinking in moderation, is OK. Yet, should be consulted with your pdoc, as to what is moderate drinking.

Having four drinks, at a time, how often? I don't feel, when taking meds, it's necessary to be a teatoler(sp?), but, caution is ones best route...

Your doctor may also advise caution or another medicine if you are 80 years of age or older, or are taking medicines that increase the risk of stomach bleeding (e.g. aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs [NSAIDs] such as ibuprofen).
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have, or have had in the past, any of the following conditions (you might need to take extra precautions, or another medicine might be more suitable):
epilepsy or reduced seizure threshold
bipolar disorder
stomach bleeding
liver problems

healingme4me sound advice. Any thing in excess is usually going to be bad for you. There are actually studies that show a glass of wine at dinner is actually good for you. Likewise any alcohol in modest to moderate amounts should be safe as long as it is not inter-reacting in a negative way with other meds. For example, benzos and alcohol, or trazodone and alcohol. Obviously you should not drive or use any power tools or do any thing dangerous as you will be more impaired then you think you are.

The only other precautions would be if one already has a precondition that makes taking alcohol more dangerous. Common sense should prevail. Always one should consult with their doctor before consuming alcohol with any medication to know and understand what the risks are if any.

Whatever we put into our bodies will affect us. Maybe not tomorrow or next week but eventually it does.
