I am trying to find a SSRI that isn't activating. I would like to find like a middle ground something that doesn't hype me up (and the anxiety) and doesn't make me lethargic and sleep all day.
Zoloft and Prozac is a NO NO - awful experiences. Any suggestions? |

Is Wellbutrin an SSRI? At any rate, I have had good success with it.

Paxil was very activating for me. I am on Zoloft and Wellbutrin right now, but will go off the Wellbutrin as my doctor says it is more activating than Zoloft. My problem is I get major depressive episodes. The antidepressants stimulate me to the point of mania. Then they have to put on mood stabilizers to dampen the antidepressant effect. I am looking for a better way for me. I have been on Abilify and am tapering off of it because of weight gain. I am hoping to be able to be stabilized on Zoloft and Lamictal. Best of luck to you and if you figure this out please let us know.

Wellbutrin is known to be activating. I've been on Prozac and found it aggravated my anxiety really badly. But then I was also on Lamictal at the time, too. Lamictal was activating for me. The combination of Lamictal and Prozac eventually sent me over the edge. I dropped those two and started on Wellbutrin (regular formulation, not extended release). The Wellbutrin is working pretty well as an antidepressant so far but is severely aggravating the tinnitus in my left ear. I may have to drop the Wellbutrin as tinnitus can be a precursor to hearing loss, and I already have moderate-severe hearing loss in both ears. I'm super-sensitive to medications, so I'm not sure how much my experience can apply to yours...

I'm not sure what country you're in, but in the US, as strongerman indicated Wellbutrin is an NDRI, not an SSRI. Lamictal is an anti-convulsant, not an SSRI either. Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, and Lexapro are the only true SSRIs. Viibryd, is a SSRI combined with and a 5HT1A receptor partial agonist and considered an SMS. I have found that Lexapro is pretty good. I also have an anxiety disorder (PTSD) so I don't want to take anything too activating and I've taken Lexapro for seasonal depression and had no problems with it.

I think your reaction is going to be unique so starting tiny is your best bet. Personally I find all of the ones I have taken to be activating so I start small and take them in the morning. My tolerance is low too.
