until you just say nothing is working and quit taking it? When I first started feeling that I wanted to die even while taking Celexa my doctor said to just keep taking it. This past week he added Xanax and Ambien because I called him in desperation that I wanted to die. He says I will be fine and if things aren't better by the time he gets back from thanksgiving vacation he will see me.
I guess my question is how long should it have taken celexa to help and does adding xanax and ambien to the mix help or just give me the out I think I want? |

Hi, I'm sorry you are feeling so terrible. Please take my reply for what it is as I am not a physician. Sometimes it takes many tries to find an antidepressant that works. I think I would want to try a new antidepressant before I got hooked on benzos and sleeping pills. Celexa did not work for me either. Then I tried Prozac and that didn't work either. It was better, but not great. Then I switched to Effexor and hit the jackpot. I feel great. Don't give up trying to find what works for you. If I would have killed myself when I wanted to back then, I wouldn't be here, wouldn't be feeling great, wouldn't be here for my kids. Take care.

I would say that it took about 2 weeks for me to feel a difference and then about 4 to notice it working in my life & mind..... I have been on Celexa for about a year now I am so HAPPY!!

I was hoping that by now it would be making a significant difference but at 7 weeks of it doesn't seem to be as good of result as the doctor hoped it would be. I don't have the stomach issues that I did at 4 days but don't seem to be getting out of the darkness and feeling of hopelessness and sense of no reason to keep trying life.
![]() thank you for the responses and the link to the past questions on celexa and dosages. 40mg a day is where I'm at now. |

((((((( hugs ))))))) ~ ~ ~ ((((((( hugs ))))))) Hang in there..... in some people it can take up to 3 months to receive its full benefit, but once it does kick in it will be well worth the wait. Plus - there are always those few medications that do not work for everyone.... so in 4 to 6 months if you still have not received any relief I would talk to your doctor about starting something new. BTW - what dose are you taking right now? - it might just need to be increased, as mine is during my monthly cycle.... for 3 weeks I take 20 mg a day and then during my cycle I take 40 mg (one in the morning and one at night) LoVe, Rhapsody - |

I'm taking 40mg right now. one a.m. and one p.m. and now to get me out of his hair before his vacation i've got xanax and more ambien. I don't think he really got what I was saying to him or didn't care. either way.

Is this a psych you are seeing? There are many possible problems here...and the "more is better" philosophy is usually not the answer.

PA at the doctors office......i have put them away for tonight so as not to give into "more is better" thoughts tonight as being the solution to everyone's problems.
