Hi, I am looking for anyone who can share stories?advice about Celexa (citalopram) I started it exactly one week ago, and I am thinking it is starting to work. I was twice on Prozac in the past and usually it took about 4 weeks to "kick in". I was very weepy, restless, uninterested in things, and had almost constant suicidal thoughts. The thoughts are gone, and I am much less weepy, in only a week on a 20mg/day doseage. Has anyone else had such sucess? Or do you think my change is medication unrelated?

My experience with Celexa has been very positive, I too had been on Prozac, Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Effexor, Remeron, etc. but Celexa was the only one that I found to be most effective when it came to helping with depression. Yes, it is possible you may be feeling a teeny bit of its effects but it too takes a couple of weeks to start feeling its full impact and to be safe I'd say a month for the fullest, but I am not an expert. Don't get discouraged if you have a point that it doesn't quite help at the 20mg to what you expected, there was a point my doc did have to bring me up to 40mg then we backed off to the original 20mg once things in my life simmered down. The beauty part for me while taking Celexa compared to other meds. I've tried is that any side effects were so mild that my daily functioning was not effected, in fact I never felt I was on medication which is great when you have to drive a lot during the day Sorry I forgot to welcome you to our forum, I got carried away with answering your post first, welcome to our forum!! I wish you lots of luck, and lways feel free to drop in anytime

Hi, thank you for your response. I seem to be getting bursts of energy back, followed by being really tired and taking extra naps ( happen to be on holidays, thank goodness! But Im back to a light schedule Sunday.) It could be the travel from Eastern Time zone to Pacific time. but I am hoping that some bursts of energy and raised spirits is the Celexa. Because Im doing way better, and I kind of like it.

I'm on 40 mg of Celexa right now. I started out on 20, and I started feeling a little bit better very quickly, but soon I went back to how I was feeling before (depressed, lonely, etc.) I know it depends on the person, but this is just my experience with the drug.
