My doctor started me on risperidone in combination with my zoloft a month ago and I'm only at the 2mg dosage for it and I'm so groggy. I also take vyvanse during the day which usually gives me tons of energy but lately it hasn't in combination with thr risperidone. Does this usually taper off ? It feels so sedating and I go to school and have a 4 year old but all I wanna do is lay down and nap. Some days it's hard to wake up at all.

Yes, I know it can be hard for first few months because the drug(s) start to take their full effect after a month & yes it tapers off gradually after once your body get used to it. There side-effects can be really challenging for the first few months & esp if you haven't taken it ever before. Best of Luck! May you get better soon & able to cope with it.

2mg Is usually too high of a dose. Psychiatrists only put that dose because everyone else does it. .5-1mg is a good enough dose. I was on 2mg but was waay too tired I couldn't think at all. Ask for a reduction in dose. If you don't notice any difference, then there is no need to take more.

Thanks all, I'm gonna try cutting the pill in half until I see my doctor again and see if that helps. Even my vyvanse which usually gives me tons of energy seems to do nothing for me now after taking the risperidone

I'm on 4 mg now and find it only mildly sedating. I take it at night right before I go to bed, and I'm fine the next day. I did have more problem with sedation when I started on it, but I got used to it.
Good luck. splitimage |

Smallish update, my doctor today lowered it to 1mg saying the sedation effect should wear off after I get used to it
