Insomnia med got changed to Ambien aka Zolpidem recently... because my previous med wasn't making me sleepy enough. Anyone has any experiences with this for sleep?
I took it twice on two separate occasions (a few days apart from each other) and on both incidences it does not make me sleepy.. instead it made me abit nausea-ish and I really felt like throwing up. This happens a few hours after taking it, and the nausea follows to the next day... I'm getting frustrated because I can't really sleep well, and I'm on an antidepressant that is supposed to make me sleepy..... Anyone has experiences with this?

Alright, what you want to do is set up a video camera and turn it on. Take the Ambien and then turn on the TV. Dr. Phil or Oprah is suggested. Try to stay up as long as you can and then send us the video of what happens.
![]() Just kidding. But that's one thing you definitely want to avoid ... waiting for it to kick in. If you wait, it's too late. Ambien will take you on a fun ride that you won't soon remember. You might wake up in the sand trap at the local golf course with a huge bill for stuff from Amazon.com that you bought online while sending a rambling email to your boss. It's really messed up what happens if you wait for it to kick in. Take it right before bed. I mean right before bed. Like lay down with your pillow and blankey and take it. Then curl up and go to sleep. For some people it does cause nausea and trouble sleeping so I hope you don't have that problem (although you already said you got nausea a couple of times on it). Charlie Sheen called Ambien "The Devil's Aspirin" so seriously, be careful with it. |

I take Ambien right before I crawl into bed and sleep very well with no morning hangover. Take at least 8 hours before you want to get up, though. Haven't had any problems with nausea. I hope it starts working for you soon. It's wonderful when it works.

Ambien used to make me hallucinate. I use to wake up all over the house and didn't remember how i got there. However it did give me some solid sleep so I will give it that.

Like ImNotHere, ambien caused me to sleepwalk. While it didn't happen that often, I went off it after falling down 12 steps & messing myself up pretty badly. My pdoc said this is a side-effect of ambien in some people.

Have you been on any "z" med prior? Those are Sonata, Lunesta and Imovane. And Ambien. If a z med worked for you before and this doesn't work, I'd think it is weird. If you have not tried them, it might be you are immune to z meds. Some people are, it's a genetic thing. They don't even get the tiniest sleepy, the med doesn't work at any dosage.
Ambien should basically knock you out within 15 minutes if your system is not used to it. Not getting sleepy and you are immune. Then a big chance all z meds are useless. Sad but true. Tell your doc. There is probably no chance this med will ever work for you.

Exactly and since they said they're experiencing nausea, which is not mentioned in my info I got from the pharmacy, I wonder if there is some kind of interaction going on.

I do take it right before I go to bed! I used to do that with valium too...
I try to sleep after I take it but I toss and turn like heck and can't sleep. Then while waiting I feel like puking... wow seems ambien has worked for many people here! ![]() This is my first 'z' med though! I shall give it another try... another time. For now I don't wanna feel pukey ![]()

Maybe it would help if you ate a few crackers when you take it, instead of on an empty stomach.

Looking at side effects, nausea is listed as a common side effect.

I've no troubles with this med. Just looking at my precaution sheet, 'this product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.'
Best to tell your pdoc. Sent from my LG-MS910 using Tapatalk 2 |

I tried ambien...had to switch because one morning I woke up as normal went about my day...sat down to watch a little tv at noon. Fell asleep and then shortly after started sleep walking...fortunately hubby was home as I went outside...
I tried MANY sleep meds. Only after we decided to ditch the "new" meds did we find one that worked. I have been taking trazadone for about 5 years now. |

I'm allergic to ambien now or it was my best sleep med. I have to say it wasn't 100 % safe for me though even before he allergy. I lost inhibition and had to really be reminded of what I did or I wouldn't know. Now my disinhibition was rather harmless and I never strayed outdoors. It happened if I didn't manage to fall asleep, then the med became activating and I could do weird things. Once I redid my entire computer system and woke up to that, once I decided blutack was very edible....
My friend tried ambien and imovane but is totally immune to both. Doesn't feel a thing. No sedation no activation just like taking nothing. My ex neighbor on the other hand planned to start taking her ambien like take the pill wind down brush teeth then go to bed. I told her do all that first, the take pill sitting on bed then lie down. She said she was glad I said it because less than 10 minutes later she was knocked out. The knock out effect weakens some if you get used to the med also it doesn't happen as fast. But when you're new to it and not immune, BAM! ZZZZzzzz. LOL.

Wanted to take it the other night to try again but remembering the pukey feeling I kinda just let myself toss and turn. Anyone felt like this at first but after awhile the side effects are gone, as with antidepressants? (I'm not going to take it everyday though..)

Lol I think everyone's extremely weird and dangerous experiences is why ambien is banned in Canada.
"In the U.S., the FDA said there have been dozens of reports of bizarre behaviour during sleep among people who have taken a sleeping pill called Ambien. While Ambien is approved for use in Canada, it is not available for sale. When a cough was keeping Rosalind Cartwright, 84, up at night, she took a cough suppressant and Ambien. The Chicago resident does not remember what happened next, although there is a dent in her refrigerator that was not there before. While sleepwalking, she likely fell several times, fracturing her wrist, breaking three ribs, cracking her pelvis and a front tooth and scraping her elbow which was bleeding profusely when she awoke, she said. She also bruised her face and had internal bleeding on the right side of her head. Cartwright had to be hospitalized for a week." |

I don't know what these people do.....I suspect they take it too soon. For me, I have to be lying in bed before I take it, because it will hit you hard. (plus no dreaming for me) If you try to stay awake and wait until you will "feel" sleepy, then it's too late....you're in Walmart buying ten bags of fertilizer or on the kitchen floor eating yogurt.
I really hope these people that are not careful don't ruin it for the rest of us.... I believe you can halve a pill....you could try that. But if neither of these things work, the go see your doctor. |

![]() I tried my ambien again yesterday night. Instead of feeling sleepy I was wide awake and struggled even further to catch a few winks. The pukey feeling was there the day after (aka today) and I struggled to keep my breakfast down. So, I give up ![]() By the way, does ambien CR make a difference? Coz I realised mine is zolpidem CR.... Thanks for the response though, guys! Really appreciate it ![]()
