I have put weight on because of my new meds, I was thinking of stopping them but I know that I will become unwell again if I do that.
Can't win take meds and I feel better but I feel depressed because of gaining weight, I exercise too.

I know how you feel! I am finding it really hard to maintain my weight on a new med (Lexapro). Before I was on Celexa, which also caused weight gain (80lbs), I got most of that weight off when the doc added Ritalin to the Celexa for daytime sleepiness issues. Now on Lexapro, I do not need the Ritalin (thank goodness), but hunger pangs are hard to fight. I gained 4lbs within the first 2 weeks but for the last week (which is my 3rd week) I have really focused on eating right and working out. I haven't lost any weight but I haven't gained either. I'm hoping to at least maintain my weight for now while I get used to the drug then hopefully I can start shedding excess weight again.

I'm on venlafaxine er 150 mg...no weight gain; in fact, much the opposite. When I was on lexapro, I gained 60 + pounds...cymbalta packed the weight on too.

It's the Celexa and Lyrica, I'd make an easy switch to Cymbalta 120mg.

I gained 80+ lbs on celexa - dr suggested trying no meds - I agreed and dropped 20lbs in two months. Now maintaining weight (trying to lose) and am ok without meds but wondering about the future and if I have to go back on meds what the weight gain result will be. The fatter I get the more depressed I am -- stupid vicious cycle.

Every psych med I've been on (which is a lot) has caused me to gain weight - a lot of weight. It is discouraging, but not being on meds just isn't a safe option for me.

I also feel that weight gain is an unacceptable side effect. Not just for vanity but for your overall health. Initially I was not too worried about this when I started Celexa 11 years ago but after packing on 80lbs I realized how bad this side effect really was. When you're that heavy you open yourself up to so many other health risks! I took off a majority of that weight but I had to add another medicine to do it.

I didn't gain the 80lbs over 11 years. I gained it over a 2 year period. Then I lost it when I started Ritalin with Celexa. My side effects never went away with Celexa unfortunately. I had them up to the last day I took the drug. Weight was only manageable with Ritalin/Celexa combo.

Weight gain isn't acceptable to me either. The most I've gained is 35 lbs on Parnate before my doc and I decided I should switch. I can't be happy if I'm not healthy and in shape. I take a stimulant along with 20mg Prozac. I was at 40 but even the stimulant didn't help the weight gain then. I have not found Paxil to became worse than the other SSRI's though many people will say otherwise.

I am now on Pristiq and have experienced a loss of appetite. I am hopeful I will not gain anything on this one. Celexa was bad but Lexapro was worse! 4lbs in a week on Lexapro. Imagine how that could add up. No thanks!

One of my "hungry meds" is seroquel, so I get wellbutrin and topomax 100mg that fight off the hunger. I try and really listen to my body to see if it's really hungry, or just wanting to eat because the food is there. So my weight is stable.
Hope you find something that works for you.

Will the amount of weight gain vary on Paxil depending upon the dose?

Zyprexa made me so hungry. I think I gained like 30 lbs from zyprexa. Went I got off it I lost it all in like a month, thats the only bad side effect with that medication. For other people its different but in my case that med def makes me hungry

That also happened to me. I've recently controlled it and started losing the weight while still on the meds by strictly limiting what and how much I allow myself to eat. I eat very small portions of generally healthy food a few times a day. For example, this morning I had a boiled egg and a piece of chicken sausage. It also helps if I write down ahead of time exactly what I'm allowed to eat in one day so I don't end up overeating. Another method I've found for weight control is eating most of the calories for the day in the morning and having little or nothing in the evening or at night.
