Topamax making me feel completely stupid? Really need help please!

Sewerrats, it would help if you stayed on topic here. If you like topamax please take it yourself, you are bipolar without a mood stabilizer right? And you are strong enough to cope with side effects.

Yeah they would not give me benzo's. They gave me hydroxyzine a antihistamine that wouldn't do crap. They have this strict anti benzo policy. They know I am a recovering alcoholic addict. One pdoc, who is a total *****, excused me of drinking when I asked for a benzo. I haven't drank in 18 years. I wanted to slap her. She was treating me like an active drug addict just for asking for something I knew would work.

I finally got back to seeing my PA who is really good and I told him I thought it was unethical to not prescribe benzo's when they are the only thing that works. He gave me a script and refills for klonopin. It works like a champ.

As far as mood stabilizers I took tegretol (carbamazapine) for years without any trouble and I am currently taking Lamictal for MDD without any side effects. The only thing he told me was to watch out for the rash.

As much as benzos present dangers, I think they are better alternative for anxiety that anti-psychotics or ADs (especially if you experience only occasional but bad anxiety...).

In ideal case, the knowledge you have soemthing to help you out, should help a lot.

This is true. I have a friend with real bad anxiety and panic attacks. He hates taking meds and it is a very rare occasion that he will. But just the fact that he has a bottle of xanax in the cupboard just in case helps him a great deal.

I'm one of the people who oddly gets helped just having access to a benzo. I think my med intake is lower just because I keep that med at home. Also I know it can be dosed for the problem. If I'm just in my normal stupid mind one pill will do and it will release some knots. If I feel realllly anxious I might need 3-4 pills. Since severe anxiety and panic scares me and the benzo really helps there, it is such a valuable med I don't want to risk it getting useless, so I naturally push dosages for other things as low as possible. Is what I don't like with non PRN meds. You are on the same all the time no matter your current mental state.

Its used in England has weight loss med and migraine med. your right many dangerous side effects , I cannot use mood stabilizers has I have half my guts took out. I Like my liver raw not fried

Well this has been a mess of a drug for me. It went from making me feel dumb, to numbing my anxiety (yay) to now not doing anything and not helping at all () so maybe an increase will help? I know some people go up to 400 mg.

I'm at 400 mg as of 2 months at first I started at 100 mg had alot of tingly sensations and soda till taste flat, I lost alot of weight which is good.

Yes it does slow you down cognitively , as for not to the point of dumb though. I'm bipolar 1 I saw my pdoc today I tend to be more manic then depressed , but since starting topomax been stable.

Now she noticed that I'm getting depressed and thinks its increased of topomax.
