How do you feel when you are on Cymbolta?

This may be an unanwerable question.

I guess many of us have taken different medications and I wondered if there is any way to compare?

Paxil makes me feel calm, relaxed but doesn't relieve my depression.
Prozac was like "speed" to me, I bounced off the walls - couldn't sit down, didn't sleep.

I know that we will all react different to chemicals but I was just interested in your experience with the drug.

Zoloft was like living in a fog. On the higher doses, I felt like I was never quite awake.

Paxil made me numb. It kept me from being emotional.

Wellbutrin was total speed. At high levels, it was like chemically induced ADHD... I could not focus or sit still. I also had no appetite, and I lost about 20 lbs. in 6 months.

On Cymbalta, I am awake and alert. My chronic pain is definitely less. I feel less drugged on Cymbalta. It does suppress my appetite somewhat.

I never tried Zoloft, but other than that, the experiences you had with the other mentioned drugs are all similar to my experiences. So, just maybe, we react to drugs in the same way?

I am on 60mg Paxil now, and it has made me less emotional, which has actually been a welcome relief, since I suffered from GAD and PA. But, I have gained 40 lbs in the 5 years I've been on it, so I want to switch to one that does not cause the weight gain.

Maybe Cymbalta is the one for me? I don't have chronic pain, though, I do have Multiple Sclerosis, and there is some spasticity pain that goes along for the ride. I have heard that Cymbalta carries a warning for possible liver damage. Have you had any problems with that?

Now, I need to figure out a way to switch from Paxil to Cymbalta, without having the horrible withdrawal symptoms that seem to go with Paxil. Cymbolta How long were you on Paxil and how long have you been on Cymbalta?

Thanks in advance for you help,

Herself

Hi...

I personally haven't made the swtich yet but I'm pretty determined. My psychristric and the "quitpaxil" boards recomend for someone like me that has severe time with it - take a whole year to wean off. So that is what I will do... I've tried too many times with the "cold turkey", the going on prozac at the same time, the zoloft fix, the every other day Paxil pill.

We've made a plan to shave off a small amount of paxil every day and slowly but surely lower the dose. When I am far enough - about 6 months from now, I will start a low does Cymbolta. That is just the plan between myself and the psychriatric that I've seen for last 4 years.
Everyone is different, I just pray this works for me.

I was on it for almost 2 years but I switched to lexapro and I like it better.

My main problem with the cymbolta was that in a lot of ways I felt like I would see all of my stressors and be overwhelmed to the point where I would push them all away and practically forget. At first it was good because I was able to forget my stress for some time, but dealing with it in the future was especially tough. I didn't want to remember that it was there and cymbolta seemed to help me suppress it I thought. My ADD disorganization did not help either.

zoloft works for me. keeps me steady & kind of in a fog which i prefer because its so much better than speedy anxiety. used to be on benzos but doc wont give me anymore cuz im an addict. the cymbalta seems like it gives me the speedy feeling. dont like it.

Hi
I just got switched to Cymbalta, from Zoloft.I really don't like it all that good.I'm still very depressed and have evan
more anxiety I also suffer from chronic pain so my doc thought this anti depressant would be helpful but it don't seem so the med that helped me the most was Prozac.
Maybe thats the next med in My life it's also importamt to read the side affects mostlty about smoking it seams to take away from the Cymbalta.

new to the site, so we're laggin.

have tried most AD with horrifying side effects.

have been taking cymbalta for 7 months. started out on 30mg, 1x daily. that dose didn't work. dr. increased to 60mg. 1x daily. (morning)

remained on 60mg for 4-5 wks then hit rock bottom. depression was back to its ole self.

t/pdr increased to 90mg and within a couple of days the depression was better, as if the clouds had opened.

it does help with the depression and severe chronic pain, but right now there is tooooo much going on and she has allowed 120mg for emergency only!
120mg, is the limit.

it was very helpful to read all your responses, it can get overwhelming trying to research each and every medication that does & doesn't work.

summer.

Hi Summerflower!

Talk to your doctor about using the amino acid l-tyrosine (on an empty stomach in the am) to help when the cymbalta poops-out on you. It really helps me with the effexor poop-out, and effexor is a similar drug.

Good luck!!!!
