I've been taking Zoloft (Sertraline) 50mg for 2 days now. Yesterday, I felt quite sick, and I couldn't focus or concentrate on anything. Right now, that's not good for me - I have my exams in 3 weeks.

This morning, I took my tablet at 8:30 and jumped in the shower to wash my hair. After 5 minutes, I felt really dizzy, and felt like I was going to pass out. I tried sitting down in the shower, but it didn't help. So, with shampoo still in my hair, I had to get out of the shower and lie down on the floor. After 5 minutes of that, I got up to finish washing my hair. Again, another 2 minutes in the shower and I felt faint again, so I got out and lay down on the floor.

This happened, in total, 3 times. I had to not put conditioner on my hair, because I felt so dizzy and sick and faint. I'm not sure if feeling faint/passing out is a (common) side-effect. If it isn't, is it anything to worry about? Should I stop taking them? Should I call my doctor on Monday and tell him? And is there any point me staying on them in the future?

Thank you.

Edit: I was also shaking (not shivering, it wasn't cold). When I stood back up, my whole body was literally shaking, and I felt like my legs were going to collapse beneath me

Did you just start? Or increase it? If you just started I would stop until Monday. If you increased it I would go to the earlier dose. Either way call the doc on Monday morning. Sounds horrible!

My guess is that you've started the Zoloft at too high of a dose. I think starting with 25mg/day for at least 5 days, then raising it to 50mg would give you less intense side effects.

I just started. My doctor gave me the prescription on Thursday, and I started taking them on Friday.

I've carried on taking them; I'm a paranoid freak, so I don't want to stop taking them without my doctor knowing about it first... I felt faint again this morning, and had to lie down. Luckily, I was in my room though, so I could lie on my bed instead of on the bathroom floor with shampoo in my hair

Thank you. I'll talk to my doctor about it on Monday, hopefully.

I would also recommend taking them at night instead of in the morning. But yes too high of a dose can do bad things. It can definitely wreck your stomach.

I've been told I have to take them in the morning. Otherwise, I would take them at night. But thank you for the suggestion anyway.

I know this is a bit old, and I'm bumping the thread a bit, but I just wanted to offer some advice and see how you were getting on? Have the side effects calmed down yet? And did you speak to your doctor about it?

Hope you're doing okay xx

you have been put on 50mg , my guess your next and last raise will be 100mg tried and proven route in England . 3 weeks main side effects lasting, has long has they like after but calming down, if not and they don't help your illness change the med.
