I was on zyrexa for about 2 yrs and loved it!

Unfortunately, I was/am one of those patients who drop some meds when I begin to feel better....... bad idea.

Though I did have a slight weight gain, it really made a difference in my depression and I am sorry that I decided I didn't need it.... I am now on another atypical and it is working ok.

Good luck and let me know how you do! And remember, watch your carb intake... Zyprexa!!!

Zyprexa!!!Zyprexa has been a wonder drug for three of my friends. All three have taken it for two years or more. They function very well on the medication. The one draw back is a slight weight gan of perhaps 10 pounds. If you exercise and eat fruits and veggies and low carbohydrates, you will be fine and won't gain any weight, but you have to stick to a diet and execise regimen daily. Congrats on taking the Zyprexa. You will soon feel better. YAY!!!

I was on it for one month. I was soooo hungry! It reduced my anxiety, but made me a little brain foggy. It gave me restless legs. I switched to abilify and WOW what a difference!

on since a few weeks now.

REALLY helping with my mood swings, really helping my thoughts not be so disorganized. Its almost a shock really how much easier it is for me to articulate things.

Best of luck Sarah116! This drug can be a godsend if it's right for you. Another nice thing about Zyprexa is that it works very quickly. You'll probably notice a difference right away, and side effects of most drugs go away with time, if you have any. Keep us posted how it works out!

Hang in there. Watch what you eat. Zyprexa doesn't make you gain weight by itself. It makes you eat more. Sometimes when you're hungry and you just wait it out, you get over it. Hopefully, this side effect will wear off with time. If not and you are miserable with the hunger (I was) you can ask your doc to try a different drug.

I also think zyprexa caused my cholesterol to be elevated. That's when I switched to abilify. Abilify worked better for me anyway. And no hunger! But YMMV.

Good luck! I hope you get some relief from your hunger soon!

Thanks, I know I have been eating so much! I have gained probably 4 or 5 pounds! Zyprexa!!! I am asking about a higher dose (I am on 25 MG now) so it can actually have a big difference and a stronger affect but my Mom said no. I only have 11 left.

It is not really dose-related. Zyprexa can cause elevated cholesterol and triglycerides as well as weight gain directly as well as increasing your appetite. I have seen this problem mediated well with a little topamax added on. Ask your doc about that.

What I meant is yes it is causing me to gain weight but I want a higher dose so it will smooth my symptoms. They are pretty much how they usually are. I will be going back to get more samples or a prescription. Thanks Dr. S.!

I was given Risperdal in November '05 with the quote I overheard from the Psychiatrist "It will help her relax and come back to reality." and before that my Psychologist said "She was pretty much mute but Ithink I know what's going on, she wants to talk but the brain says no you can'tdo that." and I was given Risperdal. Any idea what it could be? The doctors only talked with my parents and never told me anything.
