Does anyone have any legitimate information on alternative medications to Clonazepam and Ativan...that aren't habit forming and don't leave you feeling totally sedated or sleepy in the brain?

Hi,
I'm sorry that you don't believe me or Dr. Wylie when we say that Neurontin is often prescribed for anxiety, is non-addictive with little or no side effects. It has worked VERY well for me.

okiedokie, i don't think it was said that you or Dr. Wylie weren't believed. the post sounds like a fact-finding question......sometimes we like to hear from several posters when we're curious about meds..........xoxoxo pat

Certainly, and gabapentin is not going to work for everyone, and not a good option if there is any kidney dysfunction.
My fav for this is pregabalin.

Hi Pat,
I just hate to see people suffer. I suffered needlessly for far too long before I was rx'd Neurontin. Dr. Wylie certainly states the obvious that one drug won't work for everyone. And there would be concern if kidney trouble were a co-existing condition. This is one of the reasons I think it bears discussion with the physician. Treating anxiety with gapabentin is an off-label use and I just wanted to get the word out there on the chance that it could help someone else. I discovered askapatient.com on this site and this might also be a good resource.
Thanks,
Okie

No worries, Pat. I always enjoy reading your posts. I didn't mean to sound like a tv commercial for Neurontin either! I just can't believe how well it works. I know the psychiatrists in the hospital I work in use it with their patients and also have success.
Happy New Year to you!
Okie Alternatives to Clonazepam that aren't habit forming?

i was put on neurontin after having a seizure from detoxing off benzos. i took it for about 6 months & i didnt have anymore seizures but i dont think anything works like the benzos for anxiety. i have sat & argued this with my doc forever. i guess im just stuck with anxiety forever.
