Prazosin?

Doc put me on Prazosin yesterday to help with trauma related nightmares. Anyone have any experience with this? I haven't been on any meds in over 4 years and am having a hard time wrapping my head around needing a little chemical support again. Tell me your experiences with it. The good and the bad please.

It might be worth a mention here that I was told to look into it some more and make the decision that is right for me and my family.

I came to pose the same question,Lostwonder, thank you for asking!

I just came back from my pdoc, and we talked about the fact that the PTSD symptoms are worse given what is going on in my life, yet is not a surprise. He is recommending this for me as well. He suggested I research it and let him know if I want to try it. This was out-of-the blue so any info is appreciated; I will not be able to start looking into until tomorrow unfortunately, but will let you know what I find. If anyone else has info, would love to know what you know. Thanks in advance for your help.

I've been taking Prazosin for 2 1/2 yrs for nightmares. It works great for me. I was first put on it because I wasn't able to sleep through the night because of the horrible nightmares due to my trauma. That was when I was in the hospital for my ED. My pdoc in the hospital put me on it and my outside pdoc kept me on it. The main thing you need to worry about is if you have low blood pressure, to be careful when going from one position to another. ie: laying to sitting, sitting to standing. Since this is a blood pressure med, it can further lower your blood pressure. When I first was put on it, my vitals were taken a few times a day just to make sure I was doing ok on it. I had a few issues with being dizzy, although that could have been related to my ED. I no longer have those issues. My pdoc and gp monitor my blood pressure every time I go in for a visit. (I am on another blood pressure med to lower my heart rate.)

My friend also takes Prazosin for nightmares and has to be careful when standing up too fast. She occasionally has bladder issues at night and has to cut off her water about 2hrs before bed.

I also had problems being dizzy, light headed and lethargic. The biggest problem was my eye sight was blurred and doubled. I quit taking it in the day but still had vision problems. I quit taking it for that reason and because I'm already on too many meds. But, for the ptsd it was very effective.

I've been on prazosin for about 7 months now, and for me ot really helps with my ptsd related nightmares. I know other people have had problems with it, and it takes about 10 days (for me) to kick in at first. The only problem I've had with it so far is some, um... bladder problems, but that's most likely related to other things, and just agitated by it a bit. I really love it, otherwise!

Ive been on prazosin for a few months now for PTSD nightmares. It works really well for me, and its fairly inexpensive. While (for me) it doesn't make them go completely away (though it does for some people), it just makes them a lot less intense. On the nights that i forget to take it, i can definitely tell a difference!
