Hmm. This kind of legal manipulation of people is as bad as the possible problems with this medication. Drs are well aware of the problems with Zyprexa, and certainly do not need a lawyer who does not have a clue and is only out to make $$ telling them what to do. It is the responsibility of the doctor and The patient to get informed consent...ask alot of questions, get informed.

I have to say, after having MANY poor doctors that do not "do thier homework" that a little legal watchdogging is not a bad thing!!!

Not everyone is good at advocating for themselves and not everyone has easy internet access, so it is really up to the doctor to inform patients of any risks. (Patients who are able to ask questions should do so, but it can be a game of 20 questions with a dr in a hurry)

Late last year, I had a dr. leave me a voice mail at work saying I needed my gallbladder removed. It was given to me on FRI so I did not get the message til Monday. I was actually in a pretty acute state so I was PISSED

I think I am fairly knowledgable and I can google symptoms with the best of them, but I don't always know what to ask my DR.

Lawyers are some of the few people left with any incentive to look out for the consumer.

i don't see it as legal manipulation. i see it was consumer aid. people have been reared to see doctors as Gods and they aren't, by any stretch of the imagination.

i've seen too many mistakes made by doctors to rest easy and know that they're on top of things. that's why hospitals hire "patient advocates" and it's why you should never be admitted to a hospital without someone close with you ALL of the time.

i listened to a ENT man tell a friend of mine that he shouldn't even be in the hospital, after a horrible car wreck, and that his surgery should be out-patient. mind you, this man got a consult in his inbox so he could repair friend's larnyx.....he wasn't the primary doctor....he had no business saying anything to the patient about anything except his larnyx.

medicine is just like everything else. most of the time, it's about the profit......and patients need all the help they can get. i've worked in healthcare for years and years and years.

and just because i disagree with your point, it doesn't mean that i don't "need" and respect the medical profession. i do. it's when things get so lop-sided that i get concerned.
