Well Hello All,
Here is my most recent dilemma. Since being laid off I filed for unemployment which is pending however in the meantime my husband and I are watching our bills just stack up! Everything is due! Most important rent, car insurance, and my medication. Which brings me to my next question. Our health insurance jacked up the price of my Lexapro to 45 dollars a month which I can not afford right now. So I called my medical assistance/human service dept in my state and they said they could help but I had to complete paperwork and wait 90 days!! I can't wait 90 days without medicine! I called my primary doc for samples but I doubt she will be able to give me enough to hold me over. Any suggestions? My psychiatrist said try ordering from Canada which I did but they do not carry Lexapro! Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks guys!

Where I am Sunshine, they do have organizations that will help you. I got the info from my caseworker and then my pdoc also.

If you can prove hardship, as you obviously can, try that. Also Walgreens will give you prescriptions for the same reason. I have had to use them myself a few times. I was just in there last night, third night in a row - one for $30, then 20, then another 20............anyway, I can't afford my other one right now. The pharmacist asked me if I wanted to use their program, and I might have to again.

I wish you the best. Don't give up.

This link lists lots of meds, and then a number. If you scroll down to the bottom of the long list, and find that number it will show you the name of the manufacturer. Most of them have a program for people who are experiencing financial hardship. The same link explains how to contact the company and what to say/do to request info on their programs.

It may not be timely enough for your case, but maybe it will help someone else.

Sunshine,

Many of the drug companies offer (via prescription by your doc of course) free of cost, or at a greatly reduced rate. You might check to see which companies manufacture your meds and see if they can do something for you. I also have a friend who has signed up for a program which allows her to get her meds for a three months period. Then they re-evaluate her, if she still qualifies, she geta another three months. I'll be talking to her in the next day or two and see if it's something that's local just to her area, or might apply to you as well.

I'm sorry you're having such a rough go of it. I'll see if I can find out some good news for you.

Be well,
Greg

Do all Walgreens have that program? Or is it just a regional thing? I have to have some asthma meds that are $3 a vial and I can't afford that so maybe they would be able to help.

As far as I know Jannie, all Walgreens have that program. They don't want to advertise it and hesitate to use it, but if you nudge them and explain how badly you need them, they should do it. At mine, they have a clipboard and simply write my name on it.

Good luck.

Thanks for all suggestions and advice! I got a 2 months worth of free medication from my primary doctor which is a GREAT help right now. That will hold me over until I start my new job next week and my husband and I get out of our financial rut. Thank you again for being so kind!

if you're on unemployment you might also qualify for medicaid, which basicly covers all your meds for no more than 12 dollars a month. also , call the county, they often have medical assistance programs that cover meds as well
