I have taken xanax for the last 4-5 years. 1mg to 3mg a day or none ..My Pdoc has no problems with my being on them long term . I have severe Fibromyalgia and the xanax helps me with managing the pain. Where as actual pain meds do nothing for fibro pain.(go figure)

Benzios effect everyone differently .. Theres no right or wrong answer .

I know fibromyalgia mirrors certain MS symptoms, that said, after being on xanax, prescribed. 25Mgx3times day, or as needed..

I discovered it's a central nervous system depressant and also, benzos mainly klonopin can benefit seizure disorders. Granted it's a xanax, but I've developed a 'probable' muscle motor seizure due to MS, that is sporadic and it helps stop that involuntary contraction and discomfort/ pain. Another go figure.

As a result of MDD my insomnia was awful, literally slept one hour a night and got manic episodes at night, and fell asleep during the day, also had disturbing dreams. Was prescribed a benzo along with my sertraline for anxiety. Still waiting on a good depression med.

I told my GP I was having anxiety and she prescribed me Clonazepam. I only used it as needed. It works quite well when you need to calm yourself down.

Originally, I was taking Buspar when I needed to, i.e if I have to do a presentation or anything else that causes me severe anxiety. According to my psychiatrist, Buspar does not mix well with my ADHD meds, so I was prescribed Xanax. He prescribed me two 0.25 mg pills per month, because of my age and just general benzodiazepine concerns.

If used correctly, it's very effective at relaxing you and calming you down. Unless you have extreme anxiety, I don't recommend taking a benzo everyday, due to the risk of dependence and tolerance. If you're like me, using it when needed works really well.

My primary care, just prescribed me Xanax for anxiety. Then, I've just told my new docs, I've been taking it, and they've all been fine with it and continue prescribing it. You have an easy chance getting a psychiatrist to prescribe benzos over APRN's, PA's and primary care docs. Other wise you can buy them online without a script...good luck!

The first and last time I got a Benzo. My psychiatrist proscribed it it me for major anxiety. I did fill the prescription but never took them. My psychiatrist made me feel so scared to take them, I never did! Wish I had though.

I keep away from them due to me having a chronic abuse susceptibility towards most depressant drugs. Strangely I don't have problems with abusing psycho-stimulants like Ritalin, its mostly benzodiazepines and alcohol.
