Hi-

I switched from Cymbalta 60mg to Pristiq 50 mg, about 3 weeks ago. I feel super energized as compared to being on Cymbalta...In fact someone stated to me, "Where is you off/on button, as you need to turn it to off."! Rude, I know. I also am eating less. What have other's felt like on Pristiq?

Thanks!

Do you feel manic at all? As long as you are revved up but in control it would probably be okay. I would worry if it is over the top.
Thanks for this!

It is actually supposed to have that effect. It is an SSNRI and acts on nor ephinepherine. I took Pristiq for a year and it didn't have that effect on me but now I take Fetzima which is also an SSNRI and it made me hypo manic for two months.

It did go away though. Since May or June I have been pretty calm and normal energy wise. Things should balance out. I figured it was way better than the depression I was in to be hypo manic.

Thanks!

I could not tolerate Fetzima...that made me manic within 10 days...But I know Pristiq has more NE uptake inhibitor than Cymbalta, but not as much as Fetzima.

I am not manic, just more active, eating less, more productive....it is better than lying around all day.

I have to take Depakote to counteract the effects of the Pristiq I take. I do seem to have more energy since I started taking it.

this is so interesting...the side effects i am reading. no where in it's literature does it mention about energy levels. Now I now it could easily be misconstued to a slight mania....but that is not at all what I am feeling. I normally take 40mgs of dexedrine a day . I started Pristiq 4 weeks ago and I am finding that I can lower my dexedrine dose---rather HAVE to. Was getting jittery and an very strange sense of irritability-which is very new to me. I am a very quite, timid person-slow to anger and when i started at 50mgs pristiq, i was getting full blown rages. It was like i was drunk and out of control with rage. I quickly cut my dose in 1/2 and within a few days that disappeared. However, I am finding I don't want my full dose of dexedrine anymore-which is a good thing i suppose. less of that is better for my body i am sure.
Loss of appetite has also been a pleasant surprise for me. That was in the literature, but i have never been lucky enough to actually have that happen for me.

Do any of you feel like you get a "crash" from the Pristiq in the evening?
I seem to get very depressed in the evening--like my good day never existed and i go deep down on the crash. It's really hard. I wind up in tears with all my old feelings coming up again. I was hoping this will level out.
Anybody else experience this crash? I am on the immediate release--and am afraid of any xr pills...i don't like how long you could feel out of control from them if something is going bad from it.

I couldn't figure out how to start a new post on this, so I am sorry if I hijacked yours.
Perhaps the moderators will move this off on it's own.
I am having a really hard time of things right now (as it is night) and feel like i can't figure anything out.

Thanks everyone.

I only was able to take pristiq for 2 weeks but in those two weeks i never got the crash feeling. Although I was told I could not cut the pill in half. It was 50mg or nothing. Perhaps that's part of the problem? Have you checked with your pdoc?

Perhaps it could be, although my pdoc said it was ok to take 1/2. Sometimes they don't know all we think we would want them to know though....if that makes sense...lol.
As I am writing now (mid afternoon) I could fairly say I feel pretty good..but later on...it's as if any of this time never happened for me. Not stable at all. Maybe that will get better as I take it for a longer period of time.
How is it going for you?

It can induce hypomania/mania for some...I'd ck with your pdoc or pharmacist best of luck! You might consider Fetzima if you need to get off of Pristiq...good luck!!

Well, I quit taking it after 2 weeks. I had a load of side effects from it. After being the laziest person in earth, playing video games for 2 weeks straight and then being too weak to walk 1.5 miles I called it quits. Sadly the following drug trials weren't much better.

well this could help explain why sometimes I can go a few days without any sleep! but then I am now on a fairly high dose (250mg)

best of luck and hope you find something that works for you soon.
