I don't feel too good about taking Cymbalta ... because of the liver issues that it can cause. Does anyone have more information about this?

My pdoc asked my primary physician to run a liver function test on me when she was considering Cymbalta as an antidepressant. I had the test, passed just fine, but never took the A/D. I think you just need to have a simple blood test every now and then to monitor your liver function.

If you've got a healthy liver going into treatment, then you're very unlikely to develop an unhealthy one from using this drug. Routine blood tests for liver function are to discover the rare case of excessive liver stress before it has a chance to do permanent harm. Discontinuation of the drug will be all that's necessary. The liver is the only organ that can regenerate. The key is to allow it to do so before it's at the point of no return. Liver function blood work will catch the problem early, and you'll be safe.
