I started Lexapro 2weeks ago. I had been on Prozac for a long time but stopped because it gave me very painful heartburn/stomach pain right after taking it, whether with or without food.

I started Lexapro at 5mg per day for a week, then 10mg daily. I know it can take several months to reach the maximum effect.

As I have in the past, I seem to feel an immediate response, but then it fades. Now I feel unaffected. ?? I am also in excellent therapy, which also provides relief.

I'm wondering what others' experiences with Lexapro, or Lexapro vs. Prozac, have been. Thanks so much for sharing

Lexapro was strange for me, it made me really tired yet somewhat manic at the same time.

Prozac didn't help me at all.

I'm now on a small dose of Zoloft along with my other medications and it works on the depression without tipping me into mania.

was on prozac but stopped shortly due to somnolence and bad giddyness.. so can't really tell you the efficacy of it.

was on lexapro for some while at the highest dose but i requested to change because it didnt have any effect and it was burning my wallet so bad. i didn't get any effect on it at all... it didn't help with any aspect of my life. ... so :/ maybe that's for me. hope lexapro works for you!

I'm on 20mg of Prozac for panic disorder. SSRIs never do anything for my bipolar mood swings.

I've taken Lexapro, but it made me nauseous. I don't have any side effects with prozac.

Lexapro did nothing. Prozac, in the smallest dose, is very helpful and I am now back on it to help me through tremendous situational stress. It helps a lot, unlike Lexapro, but that is my individual response, simply. Like Disorder7, I do not have side effects on prozac. Maybe it is because the dose is smallest.
Thanks for this!

What dose are you on?

Prozac turned me into a zombie with many side effects. After that experience I was put on Lexapro which gave me fewer side affects. I was put on 10mg. I decided to go down to 5mg on my own though and I haven't had a panic attack so life is okay. My depression is back but at least I can enjoy music again and feel something. SSRI's make me feel emotionally hollow at regular dosage.
Thanks for this!

I took lexapro for 5 years. It worked well for a couple of those years. My dosage was upped finally and it gave me severe headaches. The world would flash white and I couldn't keep my eyes open. OTC meds weren't helping w/ the headaches so they put me on Latuda which treats acute depression/mania. I no longer have the headaches.
Thanks for this!

Prozac is the better of the 2 for me. Lexapro sent me up the wall, also very suicidal and just felt out of reality. But it does vary with each individual.

I'm currently on Prozac as it's the only anti d I can seem to tolerate without harsh side effects. Lexapro also killed my sex drive. Prozac surprisingly hasn't, even though it's known to.

Strangely the same thing happened to me. I was a vegetable on Prozac. It made me sit and stare.

Lexapro had no effect on me--either good or bad. If I had to choose between the 2, I'd try the Lexapro and then add wellbutrin later if it was ok.

I started Lexapro on 10mg and take 20mg these days of it. I feel that it does work for me. I am in a much better state than I was when I started taking it for sure.

When I first started taking in the side effects I had was stomach discomfort; diarrhea; and some trembling in my hands. All of those side effects went away after the first couple of weeks.

It took about 6 weeks for the Lexapro to build to full effect.
