hello. i know a few of my friends kids are on concerta and its supposed to be very helpful with ADHD not sure about Aspergers or ASD. all the kids i know it works really well with them the only main problem they have is the fact that with the concerta being slow release and lasts 12hrs is that they have a really supressed appetite but other than that its a good medication. my friends son was on it and he hardly ate so he lost a bit weight but he is doing ok now. good luck

Just my own experience, I am Bipolar-II, and ADD-mild, till totla stabilization, pdocs did not want to jump to my ADD treatment. But due to the "time release" kind of property of Concerta vs straight Ritalin, he okayed the Concerta in adjunct with my Lamictal (mood stabilizer) and it's worked well. True test of "real ADD" vs "Bipolar only" is that I did not get "wound up", like I would on amphethamines, they way a "true Bipolar" would get, instead the "Concerta" did not "speed" me up or cause me insomnia, in fact what a "true ADD" person would experience is the ability to sleep, slow down, concentrate, learn, etc.
Okay, enough of my ramblings, but from over a year's experience, Concerta is good. My true heart would prefer something that would give me incredible mental/physical strength, endurance and total focus, almost a "OCD" type of focus, but that would not be advisable for anyone with any form of "bipolar", by the convential type(s) of pdocs.
Again, enough of my ramblings, do not fear Concerta, under a reputable pdoc's supervision.
Another thing, we as parents also need to realize, that there is no magic med to substitute for structure, discipline, and devotion of time from us parents.
It can be time consuming, the devotion, take courses, confer with docs/pdocs, learn about the meds, even attend support groups, and I'm not saying this will all be a cure, but may reduce the needs of meds. that can interfer with a growing child's mental/physical development.
Also try to keep in mind, various behaviours of the disorders you mentioned, can overlap or mimic one another, another reason to get the closest to exact DX(es).
I wish you and anyone dealing with this sort of disorder. Keep the faith, things can work out, for all involved.
