Is anyone on this? Why and how? My psychiatrist said it's for narcolepsy.
I'm on 72mg Concerta and I'm happy with not sleeping like 16+ hours a day but I still so tired. Halp |

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with any of these medications. Hopefully there will be some other members, here on PC, who will be familiar with them.

I take Provigil now. I took it in the past as well. It was introduced when I went into inpatient voluntarily for vegetative depression. Although not technically approved there are some studies that back its use for parts of depression like sleeping too much or excessive fatigue. As I remember it worked quite quickly and I stayed on it for years and years. I had to get approval because the drug is outrageously expensive and not approved for the use but I got it and took for a long time, only needing to increases after years.
I stopped for various reasons and a switch in my treatment. The new therapist/doctor decided that nothing typical was working and that we would try this. We were able to get approval more easily than I expected and now I'm taking it and functioning at a high level, which felt impossible at the time. It is not an amphetamine so does not give me any uneasy feelings. I also have anxiety so I have to be careful with activating drugs. this in me produces a calm focused attention and gives the energy to deal with things. It is just a life saver and I wish they would approve it for more people and lower the price so that people that would benefit could have access. it is a miracle drug in my book.

Modafinil and Provigil are stimulant-like drugs that are mainly used for narcolepsy and shift work disorder. However, it has been used off-label for things like ADHD, fatigue, and even as a cognitive enhancer.
I would recommend Modafinil (generic provigil) as it is cheaper and they are pretty much the same drug except their chemical structure is a little different. It would definitely help with your fatigue as that is their main function. However, seeing as you are already on a stimulant, Concerta, your doctor might be hesitant to prescribe this on top of it. That just depends on your doctor. If your heart is fine and they know you have a problem with excessive sleepiness, then they probably won't have a problem prescribing this to you. As I said earlier, these are also considered "cognitive enhancers." Some people use them like adderall or Concerta and they get a boost from these drugs in school or work due to the energy and the increased focus and concentration. Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask! Hope you're doing well! |
