my pdoc is out till next week. i am having a horrible reaction to a med increase and it has resulted in terrible anxiety. i am not functioning...a lot more to it than that but i am trying to keep it together with my klonopin. the thing is, i have baby k. i see some outrageous dosages in peoples signatures at times thinking how that dose would knock me out. i need to make it thru the weekend. i am wondering what some "normal prescription" dose of klonopin are because i dont want to OD. i want to take a safe dose a day, but i want to make it through the weekend until i can see pdoc. i have seen people take .1 mg of klonopin four times a day which means i can safely take 8. but one of my pills isnt cutting it for me at a time. i know there are higher doses of klonopin out there as well. i took double doses yesterday three times in ten hours to make it thru. i want to know this is something that is prescribed at times so i can counter a lecture from pdoc.

so, how high can you go?.

My scrip is .5 per day. I think the most I've taken in one day is probably 2mg but that was a very bad day. It still works well for me and I haven't had intense anxiety in a while. I have also drank alcohol while taking clonazepam (and Effexor XR). I obviously can't advise you on dosage levels but I've seen members here taking as much as 10mg. I do know that it is very very difficult to have a fatal overdose of any benzo. Last I heard, the acute toxicity of clonazepam wasn't even known.
Hang on and I hope you can get the anxiety reined in soon.

. 1 or half .5 mg You can always counter the pdoc. You hired him/her and you can fire them. They are under your care. Your talking .1mg ( never heard used)? Huge difference especially Thats .4mg a day according to your script. That makes no sense to me! imho! If it is a .5mg up to 1-2 a day A whole nother ballgame. Look at the bottle and make sure otherwise there are very easy cures. Waiting for your pdoc. is not the most important way. Their should be one on call and if you just started clonazepam Which is a benzodiazepine. Which you pdoc and yourself need to use with utmost care. Figure out the pdoc or the hospital before and try to figure out the right amount on the bottle to be used, also!

well it says max does for bipolar in a day is 20mg which means i can safely take 40 pills a day which i would never do. panic disorder is 4 which is 8 pills a day. that would be more in line of what i would be going for. my current pdoc i have only seen twice and she didnt even rx it because i had plenty of refills since i have seen her. i have been getting it for years i just never take it. i have to be dying to take it because i dont want to get addicted. well now i feel as if i am dying and need it. since it has always been prn and i have never taken it, i have never really had instructions on exactly how much i can take.

I have always believed most pdocs will usually use .5mg- 4mg a day of clonazepam for anxiety but that is the general rule of thumb. Theres always exceptions and all types of pdocs and illnesses! Though I just read the maximum is 20mg. This is a first for me.

When I had a script of .5mg 2x a day it wore off so I took more like 6-10mg at a time it just sorta knocked me out. I would also drink with my prescription but just a little. NOT on 6-10mg.

Max dose for seizures is 20mg. Not for bipolar I don't think.

Thats why bezos. are supposed to be used with utmost caution. The downregulate the GABAa sub-receptors quickly. If used every day and that can lead to tolerance and addiction. Most pdocs these days will possibly keep a patient on 4 mg-maxed out but the idea is to wean you off very easily. Which is not possible; If even taking 2 mgs a day. It can take months and yrs and there are cognitive issues with long term benzo use. The pdocs (responsible) today will possibly keep a patient on a benzo for 2 weeks and past is pushing it. The receptors actually will die out. The reason is they are waiting for another anxiolytic. That does not pose a huge monster to kick in. The other responsible way is prn. Basically when having a panic attack or occasion only but everyone must realize that can become a daily use too. As the effects are not as strong as wanted.
I have known people on benzos for yrs keeping diligent just for prn use but they are an effective but addictive med.
Once used regularly even at 2mg can take months to come off of and again cognitive/ memory issues!

I was on 5 mg daily for a few years and then tapered down to 3.5 mg daily.

I was prescribed 1 mg once daily but split my dose up to .5 mg twice daily. That seemed to work best for me as it helped get me through the day and allowed me to get a good nights sleep.

There have been days when I'd take up to 2 mg a day but 1 mg usually got me through. 20 mg sounds like a very high dose to me. 2 mg mellows me out, 20 mg would knock me out.

I was on 10mg per day. 20mg sounds like an dangerously high dose. My P'doc mixed in 100mg of Seroquel at night and I am now down to 1mg perday of K'pin, soon to be .5.

As all medication reaction are different therefore each person may be prescribed differing amounts. I agree with others that have said that a total of 4mg per day is the standard maximum.

Please discuss this with your doc and maybe they can come up with a better fit for you.

1/4mg 2x day. Total of 1/2mg I try to keep it at. Work in progress. Been on them for nearly 3 months now though. Trying to find another alternative to deal with my issues.
