I am bipolar 1 since age 13
Am now 39. Have tried most meds but nothing seems to help..I also have bad side effects with most I have tried. My Dr did genetic testing last week to try to figure out what meds will work with least side effects..has anyone else had good results with meds after having this done?

I have never done this before, but it sounds fascinating!

Over the years I've kind of really gotten sick of changing medications so much and everything that goes along with that (I know you can relate). We're getting to the point where there really are no good matches left for me. So I feel ya there.

For my english project I decided to research the link between nutrition and mental health. It's fascinating! Did you know that Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, once said "All disease begins in the gut"? And another French psychiatrist named Pinel said that "Insanity originated in the areas of the stomach and intestines".

Anyway, I hope that the genetic testing tells you something good, or at least interesting
If not, maybe...you are what you eat?
Good luck.

I think there has to be a connection with what we eat and mental health to a degree.

I haven't had this done, but a couple of my colleagues (I'm a physician) are doing this for difficult to treat cases and they seem to be having good results with it if that helps any. It's kind of the latest and greatest treatment option in mental health and everyone is pretty excited about it right now.
