I've been taking Seroquel since August for bipolar2, and have done very well on it. I had a depressive episode around Thanksgiving, and my p-doc added Wellbutrin. Now, I'm out of the depression and the Wellbutrin has thrown me in to a hypomanic state. My p-doc wants me to discontinue the Wellbutrin and add in Depakote. He's starting me at 250 mg 2x per day.

What can y'all tell me about Depakote and/or Depakote in combination with Seroquel?

I am on Depakote, it has helped me a lot with the hypomania/agitation I was experiencing. My doctor also added Seroquel to my med regimen the other day, so far it seems fine. I'm pretty calm, no bad side effects.

Depakote is a solid MS.

What, if any, side effects have y'all noticed?

Hi there. Yeah, I'm on 750mg Depakote, along with Seroquel 200. When I started on these meds I slowly gained weight which shocked and annoyed me. However, the weight has gone down and with these two meds my obsessive intrusive thoughts are much less. XX

Gave up on it when trying to go above 250mg. Worsening side effects, vision issues/light sensitivity (have always been that way with other stuff), stuffy head/allergic type symptoms. Brain fog, out of it feeling, fatigue...basically, go down the list of well reported side effects, I seem to get them on all of the AEDs, and most meds for that matter. Except Benzos.

Everybody is different, by brother is on 750mg depakote, swears by it...so even a blood relative could have a completely different opinion and outcome to something.

I wanted to follow up on this thread with my experience -

I tried Depakote for a month at 1000 mg (split, 500 mg AM and PM). It was horrible!!!

I was nauseated the entire time I was on it and even though I could barely eat anything, I gained a ton of weight that I am now trying to lose. I felt bloated, my energy was completely sapped, and I felt mentally foggy all the time. I felt like I had the flu for a month. Within less than a week of coming off of Depakote my energy has returned, the nausea went away, I feel mentally sharp again.

Not a drug I'd be willing to try again. I know it works great for some people, but for me, it was a month of torture.

I was on Depakote years ago and gained 40 lbs in a short period of time. Right now I'm trying to get off of Seroquel even though it's been a savior, I want to see if I don't need it. I'm laying on the couch right now with flu symptoms just like the last time I came off of it. I'm doing this with pdoc instructions like last time it's just the way my body reacts. Anyways, I've been on Lamictal for probably seven years I think, using it as a mood stabilizer. Have you tried it?
