Usually a good mood stabilizer helps. Lamictal, Lithium or Tegretol to name a few.

Ask your therapist. Sometimes the root of anger is in anxiety or depression.

I take paxil for ptsd, it has a huge effect on my anger. Every one in my house knows if I haven't taken it in a few days.

There are definitely meds to help with out-of-control anger. Several classes of meds can be prescribed, it just depends upon the source of the problem. Please do check with your health care provider, acceptance.

Medical Marijuana? It helps my sister a lot with her anger and keeps her mellow. Strains high in CBD's not THC work well if you are prone to paranoia. I get paranoid when I smoke strains high in THC.
Thanks for this!

A lot of times the 2nd generation antipsychotics are helpful with rage and anger issues - Geodon, abilify, Risperdal, zyprexa, latuda, saphris, invega etc.
Just an FYI, I don't think that's a dumb question at all...

Not a dumb question friend! Your anger problems may very well be a symptom of an underlying condition that does have similar treatments, such as an anxiety disorder.

But as dillpickle mentioned, a mood stabilizer may be in order. According to research by Harvard University Health Publications "A number of medications are known to reduce aggression and prevent rage outbursts, including antidepressants (namely selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs), mood stabilizers (lithium and anticonvulsants), and antipsychotic drugs. In one study, impulsively aggressive patients who took the SSRI fluoxetine (Prozac) showed increased activity in the prefrontal cortex."

In addition to meds and I could not do it without meds, trust me I have anger outbursts! In addition to the meds, after much practice, you develop coping skills that help you hold back or sloow down.

3 sessions and you think its a slow process? WoW. We really do live in an instant gratification kind of society!

Healing takes time. Meds will only blunt your feelings. Once you come off the meds, the anger WILL spike again. So either deal with the anger now, stay on meds for life, or deal with the anger later.
Thanks for this!

pretty much this. Learning coping skills is like learning anything else. And if there are real underlying issues for your anger, that needs to be adressed.
