I have been seeing my psychiatrist for 14 years now and for about the last 8 years I have been explaining to him that I feel like a zombie. No energy, no ambition, my Dexadrine doesn't work anymore, and my depressions are getting worse and worse. I've been trying to get him to find something that will either replace or augment the efficiency of the Dexadrine, but he still does nothing. What is going on here? I don't have time for games.

What all meds are you on, and what dosage of Dexedrine? Maybe you need to increase the dose of Dexedrine and/or maybe you need to add an antidepressant? I don't know, but those are things to mention to your pdoc.

I know you have a long history with this guy, but maybe you should consider a getting a second opinion.

Something is not right. Your psychiatrist should be responsive to your complaints, especially depression. I agree with others in the thread that it may be time to find another doctor.

maybe a dosage increase or a change of meds? are you on an antidepressant? are you on antipsychotics? sometimes those can make you overly tired and make you lose motivation.

He hasn't been listening to you for eight years? If I was in your position, I would find another pdoc pronto. Eight years is way too long to feel like you are not getting the desired effects of your medications. I understand that you may have a connection with this pdoc, given your long history, so I suggest starting with a very frank conversation. Ask him directly why won't he add or change your medications. If he doesn't give you a clear answer that you understand or that makes sense to you, I would start looking for a new pdoc.

Some docs are like that. When I was at my worst my doc thought I did well on my old med (was a zombie) and it took me 3 years to get anything resembling proper treatment. And all people don't have a choice when it comes to doctors, can be what system you're in, your location, insurance etc.

It's good it works for you. It's mostly seen as a sedative drug though so I doubt all people can use it for energy.

Yeah, I would look for a different. He should have at least explained why he wouldn't do something different.
