I just picked up a prescription for a generic seroquel, quetiapine (50mg). Twice a day, 30 day script. I've been avoiding medication for so long, I'm nervous about taking it, but here goes nothing, right? What should I expect to experience? Is there a dramatic difference with this stuff? I'm hoping it will help me get my life under control along with therapy and other healthy life skills.

Ok I took the first pill, and I do feel more relaxed and able to focus after only a half hour. This is nice.

It may make you really sleepy after you take it. My husband can only take it before bedtime. Be careful not to try to drive after you take it.

ummm, nite nite dear... LOL
I take it to knock me on my tushy and many take it as a sleep aid. I take 100mg, but others take what you are and it still knocks them out. Just FYI |

You might have trouble with the daytime dose. I've been on it 6+ yrs and can't tolerate taking it during the day.

Sleepiness is the biggest side effect, but that can wear off as you get used to it. I now take 50 mg in the am, and 50 mg at lunch and have no trouble functioning during the day. I take 200 mg at night for sleep.
Good luck with it. splitimage |

I took two naps yesterday from just 50mg and slept all night after taking another right before bed. I am probably gonna skip the morning dose, because I don't wanna be like a zombie all day. I'm still really glad I finally got help though. My thoughts are less negative and jumbled.

Weight gain and VERY sleepy about 40 mins after taking it. Not a bad med, can be quite helpful (in my experience)...biggest issue is the weight gain it causes.

Usually people just take seroquel before bedtime. You might give your doctor a call about what to do. I'd never be able to take it during the day.

I've found that lower doses of seroquel made me much more sleepy than higher doses. I take 200 mg before bed and another 200 mg around noon. If I lay down and go to sleep, then it helps me stay asleep. However, if I'm up and doing things (like when I take the noon dose) then I'm fine and it doesn't make me sleepy at all.
When I first started taking it, my pdoc started me at a very low dose and it knocked me out almost instantly. The lower dose also made me very irritable. As I ramped up my dose, those side effects faded. It works great on my agitation and anxiety!

Anything under 200mg is more sedating... It stops being as sedating at over 200mg. You can find info on this online, plus my pdoc told me

I've been taking only 25mg in the morning and another 25mg at night for the last couple days. I'm still a bit sleepier than I'd like, but it's better than feeling like I'd been shot with a tranquilizer like before. I have a very low tolerance for most substances. Not sure if I've got everything down pat quite yet, but I think I'll stick with my current dosage for a few days and see how well my body acclimates. Thanks for the replies!
