Hi just wondering if anyone has used this for quitting smoking? How long do you have to be on it just for the quit smoking effects. I am worried about long term use on top of my other medications but am considering it for the short term - does it work like that?

It'd be nice to lift my mood a touch too so I can start that motivational drive again.

Any input? I'm off to the pdoc in 2 hours to ask him but would love to hear from those that have used it.

Within a few months of being on Wellbutrin I stopped smoking. The entire time I was on it I wasn't smoking. I didn't take it for that reason but I was amazed at how well it stopped me from smoking.

It just made cigs unappetizing.

Thanks for the replies. Doc says we'll give it a try and if it lifts my mood- bonus! He said he'd want me on it 5 months or so which I'm happy to do.

Has anyone experienced seizures while on it?

I'm not too worried about panic attacks, I'm pretty good at keeping them under control these days. Don't give up, panic attacks can be dealt with.

I finally took the first dose expecting it to be a wonder drug and give me more energy and stop smoking but so far today has been much like other days, smoked half a pack and very unmotivated. How long has it taken for others to start working for mood or smoking?

Thanks for the reply. Oh jebus, 6 weeks. Why was I under the impression this would be a quick fix? My mood and energy are dropping, Im finding it hard to feed myself or stay out of bed now. Tomorrow was supposed to be my "quit day" but I cant see that happening while my mood is this low.

It's definitely not a miracle. The quitting smoking thing kind of snuck up on me. It doesn't happen quickly.

I hope it works for you.

I quit smoking over the weekend, I dont think the med had anything to do with it and did not help with cravings or stopping at all. I have this awful nasel drip that I have never had before from quitting.

My mood is worse after 2 weeks on this med, my motivation is lower and I am now not functioning at all. I usually give new meds a good go but this one has me worried and it'll cost a lot after this script is up. I'd hoped it'd be the wonder drug but its certainly not yet and has taken all the fun out of life.

For some people, this med can cause depression. You may be one of those. I think they warn of that.

Yeah this med has royally mucked me up. I am off it now. Did not give any extra energy, felt horrible the whole time on it. Since being on it and becoming suicidal, the suicidal and SH tendencies have stuck around weeks after. I dont know how Im going to get out of this depression now.

force yourself a smile. it can help ease your mood a little when you use the muscles used for smiling it releases happy chemicals in your brain ..... the give up smoking tablets won't give you energy it will do the opposite
